Stella McCartney for H&M – launch today!

notva...@spam.com (Anne Skoogh)
Very exciting! I for one will be going to check it out, along with hordes of
teenagers I suspect. The collection looks so–so, but it includes a gorgeous
wrap dress and a couple of silk tank tops that I at least want to try on. If
they have them in a reasonable size..
from last year's Lagerfelt launch, I ended up with a very slim turtleneck in
purple and red – maybe I'll actually wear it this winter. :)

I went (in Luxembourg) this morning. Not many teen (mostly stay at home
moms and working women. The main store had about 24 women including me
waiting outside for it to open. Once in, I quickly grabbed all the
items I preselected on the website and went into the dressing room.
I bought the oversized trench and zip–up sweater, a long sleeve t–shirt
and a short sleeved one and the sage colored silk dress.
By the time I left, the store was a zoo.

Lucky shopper! H&M finally has a store in San Francisco but by the time
I get there before Christmas, everything will be gone. There was a
great article about the store in the Sunday paper. It also mentioned
that Luella Bartley has signed to do a line for Target. It is great to
see designers branching out to less expensive lines, a win/win situation
for the designer and the shopper.

By the time you get there before Christmas?? Try, by the time you get
there on the afternoon of the launch! Everything was gone today
already!
That's what happened in Boston at the Downtown Crossing store anyway –
they had a whole section of the store literally cleaned out in two
hours. The only things left right now are chain belts, Stella
t–shirts, black bikinis and gray bikinis. I managed to snatch the last
of the tux jackets. The staff at the store insisted they wouldn't be
getting more of anything. I'm not sure I believe them, given that they
hyped the Lagerfeld line in a similar way and yet kept bringing out
more merchandise for months afterwards.
A consoling thought is that Boston does seem to have a
fashion–conscious population, despite appearances...

i saw the collection online and wasn't too keen on anything, really. I
am really wanting a pair of skinny jeans but didn't like how hers are
flared and then tied at the ankle... the gem crusted camisole did look
nice.

I stupidly was part of the stampede at the Brent Cross H & M. The store
opened an hour earlier than the rest of the mall and apparently there
were plenty of people waiting to get in. Women were literally yanking
the stuff off the racks as the poor sales assistants wheeled them out. I
didn't see anything I liked really – all the good stuff was already
gone. I liked the looks of the brown trench and a long drapey sweater
but no luck. It seemed as if things were being brought out in stages ...
I overheard an assistant saying "jeans coming out in an hour". Bizarre –
absolute pandemonium really.

How was the overall quality of the items?
Do you thing they will last beyond one season?

I hate this collection! Nothing interesting at all. It's still on the
racks in Philly at 16 & Chestnut. It's not the entire collection; more
still might be delivered. The Lagerfield collection also went almost
untouched at the same location.

Well, then I don't feel so bad that H&M did not see fit to bring any of
the Stella collection to Garden State Plaza (NJ). I called the store
to inquire and was told by the manager that because the Lagerfeld
didn't sell well in the store last year, the company decided not to
bring Stella outside of Manhattan. I laughed and said "that was
because Lagerfeld's stuff was icky." The manager cracked up and...and
agreed! He said it looked like Lagerfeld barely made the effort on
that collection.
But I've heard that nearly every Stella item sold out in NYC except for
a bikini and some other random things. Looks like I won't get to see
any of this collection in person in order to judge for myself, which is
still disappointing.

Quite! They are advertising the openings on the radio and promising tees to
the first 200 shoppers IIRC. I can only imagine what it will be like inside
the store. I'm guessing it will eventually be called "store on the floor".
The H&M's I've been to in other locations are disasters inside. They have
staked out the right locations: half block from the Post St Gap store and
1.5 blocks from the Gap and Forever 21at the cable car turnaround.

There was no other information. Frustrating, isn't it?

Well, an update. I got – absolutely nothing. It was completely sold out in two
minutes where I was. I know they'll be getting more though – with
Lagerfeld, the Swedish stores got all the unsold clothes from all over the
world. Oh well.
