boot toe styles

beesw...@aol.com
I'm wanting to buy new boots, so I'm looking at eBay for some good
buys. I admit I haven't been keeping up on boot styles, but I don't
want to look *too* dated. Is it squared off toes these days, a moderate
(rounded) point...or something else entirely? I'll probably buy
whatever takes my fancy, but I'd still like to know what's in vogue
currently.
Thanks.

To my eye, the boot toe that looks best is a modified square toe, i.e.
it sort of tapers in toward the toe but doesn't come to a point but
rather a squared–off point (does that make sense?). By last winter I
already found myself very tired of super pointy toes on boots (and this
after I shelled out for an expensive pair!).

Thanks for responding! I went shopping yesterday and did like the the
modified squared toe. The ones on eBay I like have a rounded toe,
though. I never have been one for pointy toes, primarily because I have
wide feet.

In the stores in Paris, the majority of styles have the "snip" toe
(tapered toe with squared–off end) but one also sees round toes and a
few pointed ones but not super–pointy and not nearly as many as
previously. As for boot styles, nearly anything goes, it seems––I
don't think I've ever seen as many different styles available all at
the same time, and on the streets you see everything.

It sounded like folks thought there were quite a variety of acceptable
styles in boots out there right now. So I got both pair (!) I was
looking at on eBay. The first is typical 1980s, though a new pair...I
admit I owned the same thing "back then" and have owned a similar pair
to them ever since...changing off as they wore out. And the second is a
simple pair of pants boots.

Both pair are neither too pointy nor not pointy at all...rounded...not
square toed.
I know I'll like the first pair...I used to have (a long worn out pair)
like them. And I think (I hope) I'll like the second pair as well...I
have a pair of short black boots, but they are heeled and it gets old
walking in them after a while. (I love boots....)
Thanks for the feedback! It made it easier to decide which to get.
