Whiting & Davis bag?

iKitty <ikitty.nos...@shaw.ca>
I bought a copper mesh bag at a hospital thrift shop for $1. The zipper
pull says "Whiting & Davis International", and the lining has "Whiting &
Davis" in (script) woven into the fabric. There is a tag inside that
says "Made in China". What do you think? Is is authentic? TIA

It was only a $1 and you got it at the thrift shop, don't sweat it.
Just enjoy your bag and not worry if it's authentic or not.

I think that the Whiting & Davis brand has been around for a long time and,
if you collect them, well then, it's collectible. I also believe that they
are still making them, and I am guessing that a "made in China" bag is of a
very recent vintage.
Do you like it?

Hi, cofarb
I do like it! It's in great condition, and I love the colour. In
style, it's quite restrained compared to some of the styles on
Zappos.com.
At first, I wasn't sure how it would fit into my wardrobe. If it
didn't, what then? In the store, I suspected that the bag was
authentic, because, I reasoned, if it were a made–in–China knockoff,
there would be no "Made in China" label. I thought, if I were to sell
it on ebay, I could surely sell it for more than one dollar.
But when I brought it home, I saw how well it goes well with the
chestnut/bronze colours I'm attracted to now. It goes very well with a
pair of bronze flats I have, and I wore the shoes & bag out to dinner
tonight!
I'm pretty happy with my find! Thank you for your post.

there should be a Whiting & Davis fabric / cloth tag attached to lining
also there should be a Whiting & Davis stamp with the style number
the W&D logo or tag is impressed into the inside of the frame
Whiting & Davis began making mesh, by hand, in the late 1800's.
In 1912, machine–made mesh was produced at their Massachusetts factory.
Whiting & Davis first mesh bags were made by hand and today Whiting &
Davis remains the standard for mesh bags.
Whiting & Davis also manufacturer metal mesh fabrics for fashion mesh
products and its safety gloves and aprons
as well as a major supplier of mesh for industrial, architectural, and
scientific applications.

Hi, Tina
Thanks for your post. There isn't a W & D label/tag inside, no stamp
with style number (where would the stamp be?), no frame.
My bag is on the small side, with a long strap for wearing across the
body. It has a zipper closing, leather bottom, and leather strap. It's
as good as new. I wonder whether the previous owner regrets parting
with it, now that metallic leather bags in wonderful colours like
bronze, pewter, and copper are in style now!
