Harley–Davidson vs. Frye boots

mlch...@mail1.sas.upenn.edu (Melanie L Chang)
I'm at a Zappos impasse. Two nearly identical boots, almost a $100 price
difference. Are Frye boots THAT much better? Anyone have a pair of
Harleys and an opinion about them?

http://www.fryeboots.com/subpages/our–heritage.html Fryes really have
a good reputation. They will probably last "forever."

Have you looked at the reviews given to the two brand names (not just the
styles you are looking at)? Also, since both companies offer free shipping
and free return shipping, you have the option of ordering both styles with
the intention of returning one––or both.

I just bought Frye boots in August and have worn them a few times
(doesn't help that a few days ago, it was easily 30 degrees hotter)..
what style are you thinking about. I had a chance to check out their
line too for a fashion piece

I'm looking at the harness boots with the un–tapered heel (12R).
Actually, I'm not just looking, I ordered them. Heh. I guess I'll see
for myself how I like them.
I've been really impressed with the comfort of Frye boots I've tried on
before, but never found a style I really liked. I kind of wish these
were a bit shorter, but I won't know how I feel about them until I try
them on. I went a half–size down, which I hope wasn't a mistake.

actually going down a 1/2 size was a good move. depends on whether you
are wearing thick socks or not. I like where mine hit. top of the
calf.. Hope you love them. I thought about harness boots but that
harness isn't me.. the campus was.––– though I did like the slouch boot
a lot
just not $400 worth of love

My daughter bought a pair of Fryes when we were in Montana a few years
ago, and they are the most comfortable boots she owns. She wears a 9.5N
so it is hard for her to find shoes she really likes but the Fryes were
a definite winner.

I have a pair of Fryes from the 70s (I think they're the equivalent of
the current "Campus boots") and a pair of Harley black biker boots I
bought around 6 years ago. Both are pretty comfortable and I think that
both will would last long enough that your grandchildren could wear them
when they become trendy yet again in 50 or 60 years :)
I'm especially attached to my Fryes. They were around $85 back in
1975–76ish. I remember thinking that my parents wouldn't go for it but I
hadn't thought that out carefully and they took me straight to Filenes
as soon as my father got home from work. To me, it was a ton of cash. To
my mother, it was the only sign that I'd EVER give up the Earth shoes I
had been wearing almost DAILY for 3 years and I had never expressed an
interest in any trends until then. Of course, I don't think that kids
were nearly as fashion–conscious then. The uniform in Andover, MA was
Lacoste shirts, Lacoste shirts, more Lacoste shirts and Bermuda bags. My
mother wanted to throw those Earth shoes out ("Don't you think your
shoes are very tired?" :) but she couldn't have done it while I was at
school because they were always on my feet! Who'da thunk that I'd
eventually become a total clothes/shoe/handbag/makeup ho?
