What I Bought Today

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
In the midst of deep closet cleaning I realized two important pieces
were missing from my wardrobe, a casual brown treed skirt and a jacket
for formal occasions. At the end of last winter I gave away all of my
wool skirts in the size I no longer wear. At Macys I bought a Lauren
brown tweed a line skirt with red and green lines going through it as
well as an Alex Evening sparkly black long sleeve jacket. I need the
jacket for a black and white evening dinner to go over a sleeveless
shell. If I had done the cleaning a week ago, I would have saved money
on both items :(

Yesterday, actually:
I've been shopping WAY too much lately but with the recent chilly
weather in DC and a rather outdated cold weather wardrobe from almost
three years of living in Dallas, my husband and I hit LL Bean this
weekend so we could stock up on cold weather cozy stuff that I've missed
wearing:
A pair of jeans lined with bright red polarfleece (surprisingly less
bulky and unflattering than I anticipated they'd be when I initially
lugged those heavy suckers into the fitting room!)
Another pair of jeans lined with red plaid flannel (Ah! Just what I went
there for! I had a pair like these in the seventies and they're SO warm
and comfortable!)
Bright red suede clogs/mules (warm, thick padding inside). I did, of
course, need bright red cold–weather shoes of some sort to go with my
cuffed red polarfleece and red flannel lined jeans :)
A pair of black, very comfortable, fleece lined Kombi leather gloves
(buttery soft)
My husband got a couple of pairs of jeans, a pair of twills, a couple of
heavy shirts, a hunter green barn jacket and a much heavier Thinsulate
lined barn jacket in a tan color.
Of course, I was all excited about my new lined jeans and wanted to wear
them but the weather warmed back up today and now I'm just going to have
to wait until it gets colder again!

I hit the Nordstom half yearly sale yesterday.
Shoes:
A pair of bronze leather shoes by X–It. They are so soft and comy like
slippers. Perfect for running after the little man. They add a bit of zing
to basic jeans and tees.
Brown leather pump with leopard print inset with a small kitten heel. I can
wear these with jeans and a tshirt as well. The size is supposedly a 6.5,
but they fit like a 6, so I think it was a misprint.
Two v–neck 3/4 length t shirts in black and a dark apple green. I found a
green I can wear and it is quite refreshing.
A plum crinkly velvet tunic top with a bit of stretch so it goes over
motherhood curves smoothly and is flattering.
I then hit Sephora and bought the Bare Escentuals kit in Light/Fairly light.
A pretty good value I thought for 60 buckaroos. I also bought the Shu
Uemera eyelash curler and Smith's Rosebud Salve.
It was a nice day out for me. My husband took the day off from work to take
care of the little guy so I could shop leisurely...I did :)
Oh, and my order from Zappos came, here is the link.

Very comfy...its been a great week for shopping for me. I so rarely do it
for me anymore.
I am now searching for a red bag that can fit diapers, sippy cup, wallet,
cell, etc. I saw many bags, but the red was just "ugh".

I am so totally jealous of your great shopping buys. I was supposed to
be shopping in Los Angeles tomorrow but one of my cats, Jerry, is sick
so I am staying at home to find out what is wrong with him. He spent
the night at the Vets' and they are still observing him. Anyway I made
myself begin holiday shopping by checking out the J Crew sale. I
ordered jade cashmere v neck sweaters for the girls
http://tinyurl.com/cw45s and long sleeve layering tees in black and
navy for my son. I wanted to get the girls the crewneck sweaters, but
those were out of stock.

For some reason, the term "observing cats" reminded me when I was in
the hospital with a ruptured vertebral disc (L5–S1 blew, when I had
back trouble five years later they rescanned me and said "it's fine
now, all you have is a pinched nerve....") where they had a cartoon in
Radiology.
The cartoon had a kitty up on a shelf intently looking at a patient.
The caption was "And this is the LAST TIME I come in for one of these
discount CAT scans!" <grin/duck>

I stopped at the Nordstrom Half–Yearly sale. The bad news is that
nothing that was listed as on sale on the Nordstrom website appealed to
me and nothing else on sale thrilled me either. The good news is that
there's a shearling coat NOT on sale on the Nordstrom website that I
fell in love with while browsing the site and it was 60% off when I went
to fondle it in the store! There was only ONE left and it fit! I've been
wanting a new, higher quality shearling coat for the last few years
(always eagerly checking out Cofarb's shearling sale posts and waiting
for her reviews!)
Here's the coat. It's buttery soft, has a collar that I fell in love
with (it can be used as a hood) and I'm gonna LOVE it when it gets
colder and I can wear it:

Not at Nordstrom but even more exciting: My two front teeth have been
deteriorating for the last 15–20 years. I have an overbite that isn't
cosmetically noticeable but because my bottom two front teeth rubbed
against the backs of my two front teeth when I chewed, they had two huge
grooves in the back, they were hypersensitive because there were stripes
with no enamel at all and the teeth were so thin at the bottom that
they've chipped a number of times. Each time, the dentist would have to
drill the front teeth a little shorter to even them out. I finally
decided to get crowns put on. The last month was hell because the temp
crowns on my front teeth were too yellow, were similar in shape to my
"old" teeth since the mold was cast from my "old" teeth and I had worn
the exact same groove pattern into the temps that ruined my real teeth!
In fact, I had worn a hole clean through one of the temps. The permanent
crowns are now in and I'm ecstatic! The dentist did have to do a lot of
fine adjustments to both the permanent crowns and to my two bottom front
teeth so that I wouldn't crack the new crowns with my bottom teeth (now
they don't touch the crowns no matter how hard I clench my molars
together) and it took 2 hours to do that but it was worth every second
it took. The color match is perfect, there's no longer a gap between my
two front teeth (which also didn't exist when I was in my teens but the
gap got wider as my two front teeth deteriorated), they look like they
belong in my mouth and my tooth sensitivity is completely gone. No
Chiclets either (all my bottom teeth and the rest of the top teeth are
natural so unless I wanted to veneer the rest of them, which I didn't, I
couldn't get unnaturally white crowns on my two front teeth)

I'm so jealous that I can't get to that sale, but I guess I saved money.
Aren't the new Clinique lipsticks wonderful?
Today I bought my youngest girl a beautiful pair of black and gold
dangling earrings she noticed when she was home recently. They will be
a birthday gift for her. I bought myself a less ostentatious pair that
will work better with my shorter hair. My buy of the day was a three
piece Beatrix Potter bunnykins child feeding set that I found at our
service club's thrift store for just ten dollars. I will send it to my
husband's cousins who just had a baby girl.
