Mine...I went as an exhausted mother.

So did I! There were a bunch of pirates this year. I saw a Sumo wrestler,
several princesses, witches, and a SWAT team member. Nothing incredibly
original, though...

NPR had a story about how people in some of the relatively unscathed
portions of Metarie, LA dressed up in Katrina–related stuff. Including
one as a wrecked house (complete with the code for "nobody left
inside").
The only place I saw anyone dressed up was the credit union. The most
memorable one was the Grim Reaper. (FWIW, she didn't take my deposit.)

There were many, many costumes in the buildings where I work yesterday.
The best was a woman seated on a bench outside eating her lunch wearing
a mermaid costume! (I wonder how she got there.)

One of my labmates went as Super Mario.
But, the best costume I saw was a guy with long hair dressed as Jesus.

My favorite was the Superman who got our last piece of candy. He
thought he'd won a fabulous prize when I told him it was the last
Hershey bar!

There was a boy, maybe 12, who came to my house. He was wearing a
dress and a turban, and had a bunch of plastic fruit on his head. I
asked him if he was Carmen Miranda. He said, "Yes, yes I am!" I think
he was shocked that someone actually knew who he was!

At the party I went to, there was a guy there who had a "burned"
costume. He wore a charred suit and an eye–popping, very realistic
makeup job. It had to have taken hours to put together.
ObMyCostume: "Psycho" theme – My husband was Norman Bates' "mother" and
I was Marion Crane in the shower scene. So he had a housedress, gray
"old lady" wig in a bun, and prop knife, and I wore a blond wig (which
I wet down), and a skin–colored full–length leotard under a plastic
shower curtain fashioned into a toga/sari sort of thing, fastened with
metal shower curtain rings.

A friend of mine (male) wore a long brown skirt, a brown hooded
sweatshirt with the hood up, and a gold tinsel halo. He was the
expression "Holy Sh&t".
