Blue suict coat with dark brown dress pants??

"Scott" <bransk...@comcast.net>
Can anyone help me with this matching question?
I'm going in for a job interview on Wednesday and have had these really
great dark brown dress pants. They fit me perfectly. I have shoes to match
and I'm going to wear a white dress shirt and tie. These all together look
great, but I think I should where a suit coat...
I really want to wear the brown pants outfit, but I'm not sure what color
jacket to wear... I went to the Men's Warehouse and the guy there insisted
that Navy Blue would be the way to go... He said that if I try any other
brown coat that didn't match the pants exactly then it would look bad and I
couldn't find a brown coat to match exactly. I tried a very light brown
(beige) colored jacket but that looked wrong too... I ended up buying the
navy blue jacket and I guess it looks alright... but now I'm having second
thoughts...
Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Scott

The outfit you describe is far too casual for most job interviews.
Invest in a suit.

I think the navy is fine. Wear navy for an interview whenever possible,
for some reason it goes over well with interviewers.
Re: "Too casual"...
Maybe. It depends on what type of job you're going for. If it's
corporate, yes, a suit is the answer.

I agree with Barbara. For an interview, a suit is the only way to go
for a profesional situation. And it has to be a suit eg: not just
black pants and black jacket. Must be the same cloth.
Sorry that's not the answer you're looking for but if you invest in a
classic cut, you'll have the suit for years and you'll find there will
be plenty of occasions to wear it.
It'll pay off to wear a suit – shows you're making an effort...if you
get the job, there will be opportunity to wear your great brown pants.

Thanks... I think I'll take your advise and wear a suit...

Can one fail with a navy blazer? No.
So, there you go. Wear the damned thing.
