Things I didn't think would look good but did

Thinking about that op–art blouse I bought set me to wondering: what
items do you have that you never thought were "you", but a
friend/salesperson/bypasser talked you into trying it on or you thought
"what the heck" and turns out it looked so great that you bought it?
I have a brown–grey (neither are my colors) lightweight fleece jacket
that I tried on to humor a saleswoman, and amazingly it looked terrific!
I wear it a lot.

I'm approximately a MAC NC20, and usually avoid warm colours, having
noticed that they make me look ill.
Recently, I was attracted to a peachy–coloured Alencon lace long–sleeved
top. It's not my usual thing, but "the fashion" was lace with our
tweedy jackets, flower brooches pinned to the lapel ...
I commented regretfully to a salesperson that it was not my colour,
unfortunately ... She replied, it certainly _is_ your colour, and took
me over to a mirror, and I looked fine! I bought it, and have worn it,
and other oranges/corals quite happily, now, since orange is the new
"pink"!
I'm pleased, because I was in a winter rut, wearing the same old stuff:
black or black accented with a bright colour.

Fun thread!
Peach makeup. I used to lump it in the same color category as orange (which
I just don't like), but I tried Stila peach shine lip gloss, and it looks
sooo much better on me that the long–ago lemminged rose shine.
Wide leg pants. I thought that they would just make me look smaller, but DH
convinced me that they would look good. As long as they fit well at the
waist/hips and fall straight from the hips, they actually slightly elongate
my stubby legs. ;)

BR camden pants (the ones that are relatively high waisted). I gave up
on the camdens long ago, but recently the salesperson insisted I try
them on again, as they've been re–cut.
Turns out they carve out a waist where I have none, give me the
allusion of more rounded hips, do wonderful things for my butt, and
also make me look like I have long, long legs. Because they are flat
front they don't make me look like I have a poofy stomach either.
I did have to admit to the salesperson they looked great, but I was
initially worried that they were a tad too tight around the waist. She
assured me that the waistband would stretch out with time (the fabric
has stretch in it) and be more comfortable. And she was right!
So I bought two pairs, one in black and one in grey. :–)

Those sound wonderful – I haven't been to a BR for a long time, but I
need to check these pants out.
