AFAIK, the Miss USA photo is not a joke. I got the Getty Images link
from another site, though. I can't get into the Miss Universe site
photo links directly, I'm just playing around with the country codes at
the end to see what comes up. If I use the US code, I get

The Miss Universe contest was always unabashedly a beauty contest, as
opposed to what Miss America claims to be. The gowns have always sexier
than those at the Miss America pageant.
But I don't recall contestants wearing outfits this stoooopid before.

The sad thing is that the "ideal" of mass market beauty is increasingly
becoming the B–movie p*rn star. You see it from Paris Hilton to the
Miss Universe contestants to contestants on "The Amazing Race". Even
the Miss America pageant's recently added "fashion show" has become an
excercise in sleazy dressing.
p.s. OK, yeah, you're right: Paris Hilton is a C grade p*rn actress
so dressing like a B level one is actually a step up in her direction.

I haven't seen the ad. Actually I read that it was pulled so I didn't
think they were running it anymore. But in any case, I don't *get* PH's
appeal. Just about everyone I know – yes, heterosexual men included –
thinks she's a major skank. I just hope her 15 minutes are almost up. I

It's a sign of the times and IMO not particularly good to see so much
exposure. Today I was getting my earrings repaired at a jewelry making
store and I admired the beautiful Swarovski calendars on the wall. The
owner said they could not use some of the recent ones because too many
