The Miss Universe contest was always unabashedly a beauty contest, as
opposed to what Miss America claims to be. The gowns have always sexier
than those at the Miss America pageant.
But I don't recall contestants wearing outfits this stoooopid before.

The sad thing is that the "ideal" of mass market beauty is increasingly
becoming the B–movie p*rn star. You see it from Paris Hilton to the
Miss Universe contestants to contestants on "The Amazing Race". Even
the Miss America pageant's recently added "fashion show" has become an
excercise in sleazy dressing.
p.s. OK, yeah, you're right: Paris Hilton is a C grade p*rn actress
so dressing like a B level one is actually a step up in her direction.

How could you miss that ad. Very weird. I think Paris does better when she
just stands still. I did see some guy interviewed about the ad that said it
"absolutely" made him want to eat whatever burger she was eating, just so he
could think about her while he did it.

I haven't seen the ad. Actually I read that it was pulled so I didn't
think they were running it anymore. But in any case, I don't *get* PH's
appeal. Just about everyone I know – yes, heterosexual men included –
thinks she's a major skank. I just hope her 15 minutes are almost up. I
think she's vapid and annoying.

I don't recall contestants in any beauty contest wearing outfits that
didn't fit them properly. A lot of the dresses I saw bunched at the
waist, gapped at the armholes, and had crooked seams.

I'm not sure if this link takes you directly to the ad, but it's on the
comcast.net home site:

click on 'the fan' on the bottom right.
just hover over the fan images, and you should see the one with PH.

It's a sign of the times and IMO not particularly good to see so much
exposure. Today I was getting my earrings repaired at a jewelry making
store and I admired the beautiful Swarovski calendars on the wall. The
owner said they could not use some of the recent ones because too many
children come into the store and in her opinion they were risque. I
can't find them all but an example is the fourth picture of the
slideshow in the link cited below.

Smart marketing folks over at Carl's, millions of free advertising for
Carl's because of the controversy the ad caused. Not sure they planed it
that way. But the ad would draw attention just the same.
Am I supposed to believe the anorexic Ms. Hilton would actually eat a
