Custom fit shoes ?

"Gromit" <gro...@glabrous.net>
About 15 years ago I was able to get custom fit shoes. These were
*not* custom made, but better than off–the–rack. This local shoe shop
took a few foot measurements, and ordered the shoes I wanted (from
Italy).
Does anyone else remember these? Know any place I could go to get them
again? I live in Portland, OR, but Seattle isn't too far away.

Recently I had some dance shoes "custom made". The shoemaker made a big deal
about how he was going to make the shoes custom to fit my feet, but quite
frankly, I think he traced and measured my feet, and then just used a
pre–made pattern. My reason for thinking this? When I picked up the shoes,
the number"8" was written on the bottom in blue ball point ink :)
So I guess I got what you got –– *not* custom made, but better than off the
rack in that they were hand made to order. However, in my case they came
from Burbank, not Italy!!!
