re: articles on jeans

"Stevie" <privilegemagaz...@charter.net>
hi there
well the first of the many jeans articles hit the newstands yesterday in my
local burg.
It's in the Monday and Thurs editions of my local paper.
It will also be presented in different manner for an online website in July
*www.fashiontribes.com
also is going to be on 2 more websites and 2 more print magazines: one in
July in LA and the other in the OC for a new OC only magazine for later
this year.
It's all about the fit.. and how to find the best fit for your body type.
some will feature men's styles; most won't.
thanks to all of you who have shared your frustrations and concerns (and
body types) with me. I had one jeans mgf tell someone else ( who shared
the comment with me) that I *really* knew my stuff about jeans .. and how
to find a good fit.
I know of several lines that are really going to be hot and I found at least
2–3 lines with price points under 100 and 2 under 50! (and they fit really
nicely too!)
I may have to write a book or something.. FYI. for those who keep track of
trends, you will see a move toward narrower leg jeans.. almost a cigarette
skinny leg . Some lines will fit very very close to the leg without any boot
or flare leg

Hmmm, I'm wary of narrow legs b/c my thighs tend to be too big for slim–cut
pants. Please tell us that low rise is here to stay though!

Congratulations, Stevie. It sounds like all your hard work and research
has paid off.
Maybe one day you can help me figure out how to straight–leg a *new*
pair of white 'Joey' style True Religion jeans, b/c my tailor
apparently can't. <g>

well it can be done but boy does it cost. It's very time intensive.. first
come to LA and see me (ggg) and then we would (fashiondish and my cohorts in
crime uh beauty/fashion) take you to our local tailor who used to work for
Dior.
she's amazing.
what you really need is to scout a wider area for a tailor/dressmaker to
have them take out the flare. You will need to have them take out the side
seams..
rather than ruin that pair of TR's that you plunked down serious money for,
why not buy a straight legged pair.
I know that you can find them. have you checked out (new brand alert) acne
jeans?

In your research (heh...what fun research!) have you come across
anything about Corleone Jeans? I tried on a pair recently and liked
them for the long lean look they gave me. I was just curious to learn
more about the brand, besides what was on their website.

Are higher rises looking like the new trend? I was eyeing the "Jerry H"
higher rise jeans from Blue Cult and was pleased to see some different
options, though I do still love low rises.
Still trying to process "Acne" as a jeans label...I think I have the
same misgivings as the Wicked Witch, though the jeans look good. :)

** thanks Ami
Congrats!
** it sure made me feel good. I really have learned a ton. going to go
visit/tour a laundry where they bleach, fade, distress, stonewash the denim
Is that information that you're willing to share in a post, or should we

*** well a couple of those brands are in the FT.com article (s).
I will have 2 more versions online with a broader mix.. when those are up,
I will lyk. I have to scan the articles from the newspaper and then the
print magazine which I will have in July but maybe I can post the raw July
article from WEHO somewhere as a pdf.
It won't be as comprehensive because it's seriously shorter and includes
mens jeans too
Hmmm, I'm wary of narrow legs b/c my thighs tend to be too big for
slim–cut

** what you want is a more trouser straight leg fit then. the stovepipe
would be good for you. There is some trending to higher waistband jeans and
pants.. though there will be below navel waists. I saw one pair from Grey
Ant that is a true high waist and with no pleats but has stitched down seams
that make it look like pleats but give a more fitted slim waisted look. very
very unique.. It's out here in LA.. it will be wider spread than that.

Thanks, Stevie. Sorry, I had never heard of the company before and
really thought it was a typo at first, and one that initially made me
chuckle, cause, well, when I think of "acne genes"... that's not
something anyone wants! ;)
But looking at the site I see that first of all, they're from Sweden so
maybe the term "acne" doesn't mean have anything to do with skin
conditions there and second, it's apparently an acronym of sorts for
"Ambition 2 Create Novel Expressions".
I still think the brand name may give some people pause. But who knows,
if they are a big hit then "getting acne" may take on a whole new
meaning.

it's because it's a twisted seam. It's something TR is known for.. and you

try finding Jack Starr. great denim and they have a great straight leg
Stevie>
I would love to come to LA for fashion–dishing, beauty & fashion
criming and jean straight–legging (by a great tailor, too!) – sounds
like a fun time!
My tailor is usually pretty good at straight–legging. By now, he's done
quite a few pairs of jeas and slacks for me. But the 'Joey' jeans have
that seam that curves around at the calf part...then they have to match
the thread color (it's not white)...I don't even know if it can be
done. I went to another tailor in the area, she couldn't do it either,
so it must either be pretty difficult or they're both equally
un–knowledgeable.
I bought the 'Joey' jeans b/c I was looking for a pair of white jeans
and I *love* the flap button pocket that True Religion makes. So I
bought the jeans thinking I could get the flared version and just have
them altered.
Checking around today, I went to Diesel and they have a pair of white
straight leg jeans. I think I may get those. But they don't have the
pockets I love, and they really weren't as flattering as the True
Religion – minus the flare.
I've never heard of acne jeans...but would be willing to check them
out. Do they come in white, with a straight or tapered leg?
Jane
ps, if your tailor has an equally talented, long–lost sister in NY, let
me know :–)
"Stevie" <privilegemagaz...@charter.net>
OOPS didn't mean to send without text..
tired.. tgit!
anyway it's a cool line that's making some serious tracks in NYC and also in
LA.. in the WEHO area of things.. and people are definitely buying them.
They are a bit higher rise so that's a plus!

Hi Stevie!
The TR jeans *are* known for the twisted seam...I have the 'Billy'
style which is straight leg and has the flap button pocket and no
twisted seam. I am so loving them.
Checked out the 'Acne' jeans site – they look *great*! There's actually
a store listed at their website that's right near me. I will be
appearing on their doorstep tomorrow in the hopes of finding the
perfect pair of skinny–leg white jeans. Thanks for the tip....

That's true! That occurred to me the first time I saw an "Acme" brand
of french bread in a local grocery store. But, not only did the loaf
*not* explode in my face, it was tasty bread indeed! :)
Still, you gotta admit, even "acme" having an association with old
Roadrunner cartoons is a little less, well, skeevey than something
called "acne"... I just can't hear or read that and *not* think of
*acne*. Maybe it's just me, but I maintain that I find that to be a
rather unfortunate name choice. I know it's an acronym but, for
example, if I was naming a lingerie company something like Pretty
Underthings Store, and I wanted to use the acronym, I might think
twice. KWIM?
But hey, like I said, who knows, maybe they'll be the next big thing. I
was just surprised that was really the name. Still am, sort of... but
since continued exposure to the name Acme as a bread brand has made it
less automatically associated with Wile E. Coyote for me, maybe
eventually Acne Jeans won't sound weird to me anymore, either.

Yes, got to agree with you there. :) Perhaps, as you suggested,
continued exposure to the brand will desensitize us to the word, but
come on...acne is acne. I don't want "Acne" on my body, even if "Acne"
makes one's butt look great (oh, another bad visual!). Then again, I
was fine with buying all those Urban Decay makeup colors like Roach,
Gash etc. :)

Hi Stevie!
Went to go check out Acne jeans at the store near me...they were ok,
nice fit, but – no pocket detail, no white denim, and no button flap
pockets. I *love* button flap pockets. They are pricey, too, even more
so than TR. I couldn't figure out why the big $$$...unless it was
Japanese denim or something? I didn't ask.
However...
while I was there I discovered 'Rogan' brand jeans. In white denim.
With a flap pocket(!), pocket–detail (yay!) AND a straight/tapered leg.
They fit *amazing*. They are even more expensive than 'Acne', and
therefore, TR, too.
Being that they were so pricey, I told the guy (owner of the store?)
that I'd think about it and come back if I was interested.
Sounds like fun out there in LA! If you ever find yourself in NY, let
me know – I'd be more than happy to show you around. :)

"Jane" <colormej...@aol.com>
Hee hee....Hamptons of jeans....
I just wrote a loooong response that my computer somehow lost. Sheesh.
Hers's an abbreviated version.
The owner of the store that sold 'Acne' and 'Rogan' jeans said that the
button/folded flap pocket didn't sell well, that people didn't like
them. Don't know why. Maybe it makes the pocket less easily useable?
I *think* I have found my moby dick, heh, the elusive white jean I've
been looking for. I may have mentioned them before (?)....Diesel – but
no flap button pockets, although the pockets are big, which I like.
While I was at Diesel, I tried on a pair of their Japanese denim jeans.
I liked the color and texture of them, the ones I tried on were a dark
wash. I didn't ask the price, though.....between the Diesel label and
the Japanese denim, I bet they were $$$.
If you know more brands with a flap button pocket, I'd love to know
more....meanwhile, I'll try DDC LAB.
Just a note about the exchange rate –
I went to a British website to buy an item, and before I bought it,
decided to check the exchange rate (xe.com, just in case anyone needs
it...). Good thing I did. The pound is pounding the dollar into
nothing. I felt slightly better when I checked the Euro, ditto for the
Yen. How disappointing.
EMD...is that EMiriamD?
If you make your way out here, definitely look me up. We could
sight–see and, above all, dish denim.

*** yes they are expensive. Most of the denim is imported these days.
Realize that thte dollar is weak against the yen and the euro and you have a
good reason why jeans are so darn expensive.
if button flaps are your thing, then girl I have lots more than TR for you.

*** yes they are VERY expensive. Think of them as the Hamptons of denim..
very pricey..
I would also suggest that you check out DDC LAB store for denim there.
That's probably more costly in some styles than the Rogan or the TR.
Being that they were so pricey, I told the guy (owner of the store?)

the flaps?
