<delurk> weird!

kopi luwak <s...@uce.gov>
hi alt.fashioneers...been lurking about 6 months now and thanks to all
for posting...this group is always a geat read!
anyhoo, here's the deal.
i have super oily skin, it's not just oily, it's OILY...two hours after
washing and toning, i could cook fries on my forehead.
last weekend it was really scorchy and i had a semi–dressy outdoor event
to attend. i have enough of a challenge keeping the oil slick under
control and i really didn't want to deal with sweat too.
so...bright idea...i put some anti–perspirant on my forehead. just a
little schmear of the gel stick stuff.
after about an hour at the event...no sweating...great! i do the
automatic check of my forehead for grease and it's smooth and dry!
what's weird is my forehead *stayed* smooth and dry all day *and* into
the evening! i did the "anti–perspirant trick" all this week with the
same results.
i'm wondering though if it's going to cause any kind of havoc or damage
to my skin.
has anyone else ever tried this or heard of anyone else doing it?

My scalp and forehead pour like a fountain in even moderate Texas heat.
I'd thought of using antiperspirant in these areas but assumed it
would be 'dangerous'. Based on what I googled and your experience it
seems safe as underarm use. One product, Odoban Spray, is indicated
for this including 'gustatory hyperhidrosis facial blushing'.
I have outdoor work to do tomorrow with 97F predicted so will try Almay
Gel Antiperspirant on the scalp after towel drying my hair.
Given that I cut my hair to about an inch length in summer just to
minimize drying time after even a few minutes outdoors this could
change everything.

Kopi,
Thanks so much for your original post.
I did understand you had used the anti–perspirant for oiliness but the
mention prompted me to google.
I used the Almay Gel, active ingredient aluminum chlorhydrate. From
comparing labels this is the same as Mitchum which I've used for many
years. This is the ingredient mentioned on the Odoban.com site which
markets the product for face and scalp use. It is a mister so I'll
look for it. I used about 1/3 tsp.
I had great success with it yesterday and today! I was not totally dry
but more like 'normal'.
I do know that Botox is used for hyperhydrosis and have heard a certain
celebrity mention having successful treatment to his forehead. (Good
chance insurance would cover for medical reasons.)
In regards to clogged pores I think proper cleansing would prevent
that. I did read that dryness can be a side effect.
This is just so great! People have *always* commented out of concern or
just rudeness. And after 40yrs its old!
Lisa
Very happy!

for me, just having normal is a great success! i always wear bangs,
which probably adds to the problem, but i don't like to keep
blotting/powdering almost constantly because of all the oil.
now i can pull the bangs back and not be self–concious about being so
shiny.
:: I do know that Botox is used for hyperhydrosis and have heard a certain

i'm sure if i poured sweat constantly the insurance company might
consider it, but it's really only super gushy when it's hot/humid.
humidity is torture. i feels like i've got a fountain up there.
:: In regards to clogged pores I think proper cleansing would prevent

i've been using the l'oreal microdermabrasion 3x a week and i've noticed
a *huge* improvement with my pores. aha/bha did nothing for me.
dryness wouldn't bother me, being as it would be a novelty!
:: This is just so great! People have *always* commented out of concern or

it's human nature to be curious, but some people just have no tact.
