What I Bought Today

"ahmward" <nospam.ahmw...@yahoo.com>
I had almost 90 minutes between my lunch appointment and work so I
strolled through the stores at a nearby shopping center. I went to Ann
Taylor, Talbots, Chicos, two independent boutiques and a few gift stores
and found nothing I couldn't live without. I think I'm set for summer
clothes other than a pair or two of shorts in a smaller size. What I
did buy was The Botox Diaries by Janice Kaplan and Lynn Schnurnberger.
It sounds like an easy summer read.

I got into the City a little early for a deposition and had some time
to walk into a few shoe stores. I ended up with a pair of leather
strappy sandals with a high heel in silver from 9West. I'm thinking
they'll look cute with jeans and some type of black top, or an all
black outfit.

Hi
The last time I went shopping was for my sister birthday gift. She
turned 25 and I had such a hard time trying to decided what to buy her.
I checked out a few places like Dinamite, Garage Clothing and
Thrifty's. I'm currently a student in University so budgeting is an
issue. Because I'm Canadian and from Edmonton, Alberta, I finally
decided on a gift certificate from West Edmonton Mall and called it
good.
The next problem is it's younger sister's birthday soon and she's
turning 21. I would also like to get her clothes but I'm not sure what
to get her, or where else to shop. What do you guys think, what should
I buy her? Some tees and some shorts? Some cool flip–flops for the
summer?

Since 21 is such a special age why not get her a bracelet or other piece
of jewelry? You don't have to spend too much and could even get it
engraved with her initials.

The little guy and I accompanied my husband to Chicago for a business
meeting, and shopped, went to the playground, had lunch, went to the
MCA, went to playground and shopped a little more.
I bought a pink flowered tunic at Oilily. They showed it with white
capris, which looked really cute, but didn't fit right, and I already
have a similar oair, so I just got the top.
Also, from Nordies, I bought some Diesel sneaker type shoes that are
white mesh with blue and green strappies. I checked out the Cole Haan
G–series Mary Janes, but I thought the dark green metallic was too
wintery. There was a pink similar pair that I liked, but hemmed and
hawed about. Maybe when they are on sale...
Also, for my little guy, a baseball–type jacket at Oilily. I looked
for a pair of sandals for him for the summer, and never found any. We
tried Nordies, which had a pair I was luke–warm on, and can get at the
local shoe shop here anyhow (Eccos), and saw a pair I really like at
Madison & Friends (near Barney's), but did'n't have his size.

At Marshalls,
For me:
–CK jeans, cropped with foldover bottoms
–Two pairs of shorts, one Khaki, one green with pink flamingos on it,
those are about an inch above knee length
–White capris to go with tunic I bought at Oilily last week. I am so
over capris, and usually never wear them, but they go really well with
the tunic, I just didn't like the cut of the ones they paired with the
tunic at Oilily.
–Polo swim suit, sort of peach colored with blue trim.
For my little baby bear:
–Catimini shirt, light blue with French writing on it
–Polo shorts
Saw a few Lilly items, Blue Cult jeans, cashmere poncho, but they
didn't trip my trigger.

Tano pewter metallic leather handbag – it's kind of like a mini, less
slouchy Allison Burns Faithfull bag. The strap can be removed, but I can't
figure out how I could use it differently other than around my waist (it
does work, but looks too weird, like a fanny pack), or clipped to another
item. I can't find a pic of this particular style online. :(Anyway, I'll
most likely just wear it with the straps on both ends, and it's great for

At Hecht's Memorial Day Sale:
Ideology short pink A–line cotton skirt
Ideology drawstring striped pants in white, turquoise, brown and orange
–– love these and I don't own anything like them!
Ideology chiffon ruffled cami in blue and green
–– I'm really loving the Ideology line lately –– it fits me perfectly
Hilfiger orange light cotton tank with beaded embroidery
Liz Claiborne silk cami in deep teal
[none of the above were on sale –– that is SO my story]
Bandolino pleated black pique skirt with turquoise and yellow designs
(great for work –– only $18!)
Banana Republic Harrison fit black cuffed cotton pants (good for work
in the summer) $15 off coupon
IZOD button blouse in lime green and pink (looks like a Lillie Pulitzer
print) $15!
I think the IZOD blouse is my favorite thing because the Medium fits
PERFECTLY. I have such a hard time finding button–down blouses that
fit because I have a gigantic freakish chest. I usually have to buy a
large, and then it looks baggy on the waist –– or if it fits my waist,
the buttons gap! I usually resort to buying mediums and then having to
wear tank tops under shirts with the top few buttons open. Drag!
This is the first IZOD blouse I've ever tried, and it is the first
blouse in forever that fits me correctly, so I'll be looking for more
IZOD clothes.

Yesterday, actually, at Loehmann's:
"Piano" silk blouse – white with vertical turquoise stripes, except the
stripes are irregular, look sort of like paint drizzled down the blouse.
3/4 length sleeves that end in a sort of unbuttoned cuff. Wore it out
last night with a tealish green cotton skirt, and got a ton of
compliments on it.
"Lauren Lee" op–art blouse, also with 3/4 sleeves: wild pink, peach,
black and white pattern. Sounds weird and doesn't look that great on
the hanger, but something told me to try it on, and it looks wonderful
on me!
"Vistor" men's short–sleeve silk shirt. Liked the muted blue–grey and
white pattern so much that I tried it on, and much to my surprise, it
not only fit, but looked really good.
Normally I dont' find stuff at Loehmann's that fits me properly (always
fit in arms and shoulders but too tight across the front) so this was
like hitting the jackpot!
Also grabbed a pair of blue batik rayon cropped pants on the way to the
checkout line, they were on sale and they looked like they'd fit. They
landed up being a wee bit too tight but will be fine with a long tshirt.

It's from the store Coverings and I think they sell Tano at their sister
boutique across the street called Blush. Tano is a great line....it's
similar to Allison Burns in general (similar looking leather and styles),
but Tano is less pricey.
SLO shopping just gets better and better. We just got a Banana Republic and
Abercrombie & Fitch this week, and next week Chicos, Talbots and Pottery
Barn are opening in a new shopping complex downtown. Sephora may be opening
in the near future too! There's a new jewelry/accessories store I want to
check out on the outskirts of downtown. Hope we can go shopping together
when you're in town.

Today was a great day for shopping. I began by going to a huge
multi–block sale in the historic area of town. I really don't like yard
sales but this is a once a year sale with families on several streets
putting out their merchandise, and it also happens to be where one of my
favorite local artists lives http://www.bebelongart.com/
I can't find a picture of the framed giclee I bought but it is of one of
the local areas in town and the frame is white and then a huge
latticework exterior. She painted on the mat extending into the picture
and it is absolutely gorgeous. It was marked down to a very affordable
price too. Other than making a donation to someone collecting money for
the Susan G Komen Foundation, I used the sale as an opportunity to walk
through the pretty neighborhood.
In the afternoon DH, the middle child and I did serious shopping at the
outlet mall an hour from home. I had a list of kitchen items and ended
up with two fritatta pans (one for us and one for the child), a
universal lid, new Circulon teapot, magnets, nn–stick spatulas, several
colorful chopping boards to give as gifts to DH's extended family, Bass
socks for him, Izod shirts and shorts for him, RL polos for the
children, two cute striped RL shirts for me (one is red and blue and the
other is pink and green with boatneck collars and cute details), and
finally Champion sports bras and the world's softest socks at the Hanes
et.al. outlet. I used a coupon book from the outlet center, and they
had lots of Memorial Day weekend sales so we considered it an excellent
trip. When you go to the outlets, always check on line to see if you can
find additional discounts.

We drove up to Snoqualmie Falls (it was a gorgeous day for it––––wow...) and
went to the Outlet/Factory Mall very nearby for a few hours.
Bought two t–shirts (one red, one black) for the Summer and a grey pullover
sweatshirt to wear in the Fall at the Reebok Outlet store. Spent less than
$40 on all three.
Bought some black suede "sandals" that were originally priced at $108 and
were $60 at the outlet price at Shoe Pavilion. They're a mary jane style
mule. Will wear with jeans and khakis or maybe with the occasional long
skirt in the colder Autumn months to come since they're not strappy sandals.
These mary janes just don't look right with my shorts, but I'm ok with that
and I have enough Summer single strap or multi strap style sandals or
toeless, strappy style Dansko clogs.
Bought two Louise Erdrich novels, one of which was a hard cover, for only
$10 at The Book Warehouse.
Had lunch on the way at Taco Del Mar. The person I went with got some cool
rubber handled kitchen gadgets for 50% off at the Kitchen Store while we
were there at the outlet mall. I think it was at a Farberware outlet store
or something like that, but there are three separate kitchen stores at that
mall, which is pretty cool.
I was *so* ticked off that the Fieldcrest store is gone. I like to go there
and get frou–frou bath gels and pillow cases. Damn them! They replaced it
with what looked to be a trendy candy store, the flippin' idiots!!! Some
kind of chocolate factory place where everything was incredibly overpriced
and a lot of it looked pre–packaged and stale. I'd rather have my 70% off
bedding, quite honestly....

Gasoline. Filled up the half–empty tank before it could get even more
expensive.
Only $2.519/gallon at "Texaco, now featuring Techron." On one of the
local streets where the gas is invariably cheaper.
This is not to be confused with the other kind of Texaco, where they
haven't yet "Shelled" out for the new red and yellow signs they'll
have to buy before next July.
Blame the FTC for making Chevron divest part of the service station
network when they bought Texaco, especially with the fun customers who
want to go to one type of Texaco station or the other. (Chevron or
Shell stockholders, for one.)
IMHO, fuel's not expensive enough because I saw at least three
unoccupied vehicles idling in the past 24 hours. No, they weren't
refrigerated trucks running to keep their loads in the cold chain
where they belong.
