Most versatile, universally flattering brands?

"shinypenny" <shinypenny0...@yahoo.com>
My girlfriend and I have recently started a new mission: to find brands
of clothing that have universally flattering cuts that flatter *both*
of us.
She and I have very different builds. Think Trinny and Susannah – she
is very tall with long legs, small waist and generous hips, thighs, and
butt. I am the exact opposite – petite with proportionately short legs,
no hips, small butt, small thighs, and thick waisted. For the longest
time we figured it was impossible for both of us to look good in the
same brand and style of pants – seemed if something flattered her, it
was sure to look all wrong on me, and vice versa. For example she looks
great in BR martin's and I look terrible in them, but I look great in
BR Harrison's and she looks terrible in them.
But then we discovered that the Gap bootcut modern fit stretch khakis
flatter *BOTH* of us!! (I got the ankle length and she got the long
length). That was an amazing discovery!
We thought it was a fluke... until we discovered last night that Levi's
515's flatter both of us too! Hmmm... could the secret be the stretch?
I do think that's a big factor, but there's also something about the
cut of the leg, and how it tapers down the thigh.
So now we're on this mission. We are wondering what *other* brands
might be out there that are universally flattering for a wide range of
body types and sizes?

Gosh thats a hard call.
I think diferent women have diferent bone structures and skin tones so
I think that would impact the whole universal thing.
Places like http://www.swapstyle.com are great because you find girls
on there that have the same style as you and you can then swap fashion
with them.
any way great topic.

Yes, good example. I'd call them "nearly universal" though because they
don't come in petite sizes. They do have shorter lengths, but I have
trouble with them because the rise is just a bit too long for me. For
me they are nearly flattering, but not quite enough to spend my money
on them (no matter how cheap).
It's probably true that there's no true universally flattering items,
but *nearly* universal is still amazing to me!!

My girlfriend and I have recently started a new mission: to find
brands
of clothing that have universally flattering cuts that flatter *both*
of us.
She and I have very different builds. Think Trinny and Susannah – she
is very tall with long legs, small waist and generous hips, thighs,
and
butt. I am the exact opposite – petite with proportionately short
legs,
no hips, small butt, small thighs, and thick waisted. For the longest
time we figured it was impossible for both of us to look good in the
same brand and style of pants – seemed if something flattered her, it
was sure to look all wrong on me, and vice versa. For example she
looks
great in BR martin's and I look terrible in them, but I look great in
BR Harrison's and she looks terrible in them.
But then we discovered that the Gap bootcut modern fit stretch khakis
flatter *BOTH* of us!! (I got the ankle length and she got the long
length). That was an amazing discovery!
We thought it was a fluke... until we discovered last night that
Levi's
515's flatter both of us too! Hmmm... could the secret be the
stretch?
I do think that's a big factor, but there's also something about the
cut of the leg, and how it tapers down the thigh.
So now we're on this mission. We are wondering what *other* brands
might be out there that are universally flattering for a wide range
of
body types and sizes?

Express Editor pants. Look great on everyone I've seen. Bonus: Once I
knew my size, I started getting them on ebay – regular pants, capris,
different colors. Cheap!
Love em.

Been mulling this over for a while and I keep coming back to the
thought that probably, nothing that was universally flattering for most
everyone would be the most flattering thing for anyone. Does that make
sense?
There are certain styles that I think look good on a wide variety of
body types, but I'm not really able to name brands that accomodate
various body types, because I have quite enough trouble finding brands
that even work for *me* consistently.
But I am enjoying reading everyone's responses. Good thread!

Amazing, I didn't know I had a shape doppelganger out there! I would
love
to share notes on fashion. I find it so hard to find clothing that
looks
professional. Traditional button down shirts won't button for me.
!! Ah, I know the name of that tune! I finally gave up on blouses,
per se, and started wearing light silk sweaters and dressy tees
(drape–necks, etc.) with my suits. The return of the twinset has been
a boon for me as well. In a twinset and an a–line or pleated skirt,
I'm happy. The magazines keep presaging the return of the "Katharine
Hepburn" style slacks, which I look forward to happily. Low–rise jeans
have not been my friend.
:)
