Embarrassing lingerie faux pas

rivergirl...@hotmail.com
Is this really so horrible, or is it just that my daughter is a 15 year
old with an attitude: Because a lot of my tops are cotton/Lycra (but
NOT skin tight) and despite wearing good bras (and not due to any
changes in temperature), I often have an anatomical protrusion that
shows through on my chest. (No, I am not a dirty old man making this
up.)
My daughter will attack me with, "Are you WEARING A BRA?" Yes I am. I
cannot walk around with my arms folded over my chest all day, either. I
know you can buy those little flower–shaped stickers at Walgreen's,
etc., that supposedly stop this sort of show, but I understand they are
for one use only and not for sensitive skin.
Is this a common problem? Is it socially unacceptable? Do I look like a
loose woman when this happens? I am a 45–year–old dowdy homemaker! TIA

From what I understand, the Victoria's Secret IPEX bra is geared to
handle EXACTLY that kind of problem.

Any lined (not padded, just where the whole cup has a light lining) bra
would work, actually. I am paranoid about...er...protrusion and I buy
these $11.99 bras at Target that are just lightly lined and it takes
care of it (I forget the name) and also Maidenform "One Fabulous Fit"
bras are lightly lined.
And Victoria's Secret entire Body By Victoria line is lined, and their
T–shirt bras are as well.

Your daughter is uncomfortable because at her age, her mother is not
supposed to have visible body parts. It just comes with the territory
of being a young teen. Just wear a lightly padded bra. I teach
teenagers and the last thing I would want would be for them to see any
of my unacceptable body parts.

Of course you don't look like "a loose woman". That's just silly. You
look like a human woman with nipples. We all have 'em, even nuns.
If you would like to reduce "nipple show–through" (as it is called in
the industry), think about investing in some bras that are, as others
have said, lined. Lace bra + t–shirt = "nipple show–through", usually.
Unlined nylon crepe or satin bra + t–shirt = "nipple show–through."
Most makers have things called "t–shirt bras" which are designed to
address this issue.
Good luck!
