Going On Vacation in North Carolina (what do I pack??)

<valmont32...@aol.com>
Hey gang, I am going to North Carolina to see my boyfriend for a couple
weeks or so. I am staying in Wrightsville, which is near Wilmington, if
anyone from AF wants to meet up! Leaving June 4th, returning June 19th. If
anyone is interested in meeting up, email me at valmont32...@aol.com
Anyhoo, my BF says it is going to be really hot there. "Problem" (if you
want to call it that!) is that I am staying right on the beach at a hotel
and I was wondering if the breeze off the ocean makes it chilly. Any ideas
what to pack?? I am going to buy stuff like shampoo, toothpaste, etc there
and give it to my BF to keep at his house since I am going back in July.
Usairways allows 2 suitcases and they both have to be under 50 pounds.
Okay, got the 2 suitcases. Now, what to pack, what to pack?! I have a
gorgeous (think legally blonde!) Ralph Lauren knee length spring coat I
think I want to bring, plus a black sweater–weight poncho, but other than
that, will I need any warmer clothes? We aren't really going to be going
anywhere that requires dressing up, but I have my LBD I am also bringing. I
am bringing my SAS sandals, a pair of walking shoes, and a pair of black
flip flops (flippers for the beach!). So, should I go with tank tops and
jeans mostly? Also wanted to add that I don't wear shorts, but I have a
couple pairs of cute capri–pedal pusher type pants that might work too. Any
and all ideas are appreciated!! What SPF would y'all suggest for some
serious hanging out at the ocean? I've never stayed by the ocean before
except once in the winter in FL and it was cold so we didn't lay out in the
sun. Sorry for such a long post, but I need some advice! TIA! :–)
––Kristin
PS: I bought a "trinket box" for my jewelry, can I put that in my carry–on?
The last time I put jewelry in my suitcase they ended up breaking a nice
pair of dangly earrings I had.

Do not put jewelry in your suitcase. The worse that could happen is you
would have to open up the trinket box and show them what is inside. It
is too easy for someone to steal now that bags cannot be locked. I
always carry my jewelry in my handbag or carryon. Have you checked the
Internet weather sites such as the National Weather Service? I always
do that a few days before I travel. Get something with an spf of no
less than 30 and probably 50. Think about wearing a hat at the beach.
I don't know about North Carolina, but at the California coast I wear
sweatshirts in the morning because it is cold and foggy. Since you will
be gone for just two weeks, you shouldn't need more than one suitcase
and one carryon unless you need a garment bag. Just coordinate your
colors.

Thanks to everyone who posted about my trip! I would have _never_
remembered an umbrella!! I have a very nice white signature Dooney & Bourke.
I appreciate the posting of the temps as well and the websites. I knew I
could on y'all! :–) Thanks so much everyone!! Oh, but I think I will need
the spring coat for the restaurants because I am just like my boyfriend's
mother who gets freakishly cold in about 90 degree weather!

I grew up on the coast of NC, and I would be stunned and amazed if you
need the spring coat, other than for restaurants with waaaay too much
air conditioning. Expect the temps to be mid 80's and the humidity to
be creeping up, though not as bad as August when the air drips.
Think casual – the capris are great, bring anything you don't mind
getting sandy and salty. Don't forget the umbrella or other rain gear,
and have lots of fun.

Tack on humidity and unless there's a freak cold
front moving in you can count on being warm,
morning, noon and night. *g*
Now if there is a freak cold snap and it does happen,
this has been a very strange spring in the mid atlantic
your poncho would work well if its a very light weight
sweater. Very_Light_Weight. A cold front in NC
generally speaking, isn't a New England cold front in
June. If that makes sense.

Never pack the jewels.
Always have a change of clothes including
underwear/cosmetics/ and light weight shoes
in your carry on. If and when the luggage is lost
you won't be. <g>
Your SPF should be a waterproof 40/50. Re apply
every 2 hours and remember to put on a min of
30 minutes before heading outside period.
Don't forget the tops of your feet, earlobes
and behind your ears. Trust me on this.
Wear a beach hat! Rent an umbrella! Stay off
the beach entirely from noon to a minimum of 2 p.m.

Stay off
the beach entirely from noon to a minimum of 2 p.m.
pref 3. * You could just see my hands on my hips
now couldn't you?* ;))
