I have arrived relatively late to the Wonderful World of Bag Obsessives
(should we be called Bags Anonymous??) but I'm catching up, believe me!
I don't have a particular brand or type of bag that calls to me,
except that they're all relatively large and usually have lots of
pockets, both inside and out. But I've fallen for bags that don't fit
these criteria, too.
There's a store on the Upper West Side of NYC called Verve and I cannot
leave there without doing a fair amount of bag damage. The owner is an
Israeli man with an incredible eye, a great sense of style and color.
All of the bags there are way up on the Fabulosity Scale. Also, great
scarves, jewelry, watches, plus the downtown location also carries
shoes (good thing I'm not near that one very often).
And, I've scored some adorable and outoftheordinary bags at TJX,
too, mainly by Esprit. Cute, colorful, great for summer. I'm dusting
off an orange one with dark gray trim that I got two years ago and will
probably wear in rotation with a white/yellow one and a pale blue
"jelly" bag that has an adorable floral patch on the front (that one
was made in France, can't recall the manufacturer).
Bagsyay!
OOHhh...I love Verve!! Definitely fabulous bags. I bought a blush
distressed leather bag at one of the downtown locations (the accessory one,
not the shoe one) and it is one of my top favorite bags (and I have plenty
of bags so that is really saying something)!
Another great store downtown store for bags and other accessories is Planet
Green Inc. (175 W. 4th Street in case anyone is interested). The bags tend
to be very "of the moment" styles and colors and run about $40 (leather).
It's a husband and wife from South Africa & they travel the world picking up
all kinds of different items. I think I remember the woman telling me she
buys the accessories and her husband buys the clothing. Last time I was in I
bought a necklace handmade in Brazil of all of these rough cut but polished
stones on a number of intertwined wire strands. Very hard to describe, but
very cool and different looking.
As for my most recent bag purchase yesterday I bought a Cole Haan lunch
tote from the Megan collection in sand. It's a neutral color nylon bag with
white leather accents & a touch of lime green (can't really see the green in
the picture on the website). I don't love how open the top is, but it is a
good size for me to stuff my water bottle, magazine, umbrella and work
papers in, which hopefully cover up the rest wallet, phone, etc.
