Brown hair color (bleach)

"Parakeet" <s...@uce.gov>
I have dark brown hair and want to cover up so brassy highlights.
Skipping over the filler etc questions, which dark browns are dark
brown and not black. I did a test on one the root one with the brush?
When it "cured' it was indigo then went almost black.
What brands are dark brown staying dark brown. Think Hershey's
chocolate dark brown. Should I look at Dark Auburn?
My hair is brown with red undertones, my regular colorist is out on a
book tour with a "bigger name" and won't be back for two months. My
roots and I can't wait that long.
I'm looking to cover grey at the roots and de–brass the highlights
making them go away. A bad decision to put highlights in my hair...

My hair is brown with red undertones too, and I have what I'd call a
faint amount of grey. I'd suggest trying someone else at your salon to
cover both highlights and grey roots–– I've experimented far more than
I care to admit with over the counter hair dye and deeper brown tones
often look really flat to me. The other thing I've noticed is that over
the counter browns and deep reds (like dark auburn) wash out really
fast, even when the color is permanent. My hair's thick and on the dry
side, so that might be part of it.
I've experimented a lot with color over the years, but I have to admit
that for me, the best color is done professionally.
