Somewhat OT: higher end bed linens

"Bfrey97...@aol.com" <Bfrey97147@aol.com>
I'd like to upgrade our bed linens and comforter. The goal is softness
and comfort. For some new pillows and cases, sheets, and a comforter,
my budget is about $500. We don't have any high–end stores in our
area, but we do have a Bed Bath and Beyond. (We do have Macy's and
Strawbridge's). I see Kohl's has 300 thread–count Egyptian cotton
sheets on sale––would those be something a little more "special" than
the regular cheap sheets I usually buy? For pillows, I had a feather
pillow (don't remember the type of pillow) in the past and the feathers
poked through the pillow case and just annoyed me. Any special types
of fabrics, brand names, etc I should be looking for? Does BB and
Beyond have nice quality linens and comforters? Many thanks in
advance! Beverly

I have bought bedding at both Kohls & BB&B and to me niether has been
anything "special".
Since it sounds like you are looking for higher–end bedding I would suggest
you try www.smartbargains.com they have a lot of great deals on bedding & at
very reasonable prices. Currently they have 1000 TC sheet set for $129.

I bought a set of sheets from Penneys online. The Chris Madden line is
excellent IMO. Really soft and silk. They stay that way after many
washings. I think I paid (on sale) $79 for a set. I bought a whole bed
set (duvet cover, bed skirt, pillow shams and sheets for $300 (on sale)
Reg price $400.

I second what Cherie says, Beverly, and I've recently been reminded of
something regarding sheets. I love the sateen sheets! They are so cool and
comfortable, yet can be warm enough in the winter months. I have on my bed
now a set of gold sateen 400 TC sheets that I found at SuperTarget for
$39.99. They are so smooth and wonderful! They give a great night's sleep!
I also have a set of 600 TC cotton jacquard sheets that are heavy and
damask–like but they are not cool like the sateen. Still wonderful, just
different.
I would also check out Overstocks.com. I have bought both sheets (600TC)
and feather comforters from them. I like them as well. With all of the
great deals you can find from these two sites on bedding, it would be great
to check them first.

You can get really great 600 TC sheets at Bed Bath & Beyond for about

price.

I'm not into high end linens, necessarily (don't want to spend the money
because the dogs sleep on the bed too<g>). I do, however, like sheets
with a little higher thread count, since the cheapo 180TC get so thread
bare quickly. That said, I just picked up a set of cotton sheets at
Sears that are like 320TC. They were originally $66, marked down to $16
and then 25% off. If they'd had more colors, I'd have bought more (and I
will be checking out the next closest Sears this week!).
Like I said, they aren't high end, but I wanted to share my good find!

Like I said, they aren't high end, but I wanted to share my good find!

the regular cheap sheets I usually buy? For pillows, I had a feather
pillow (don't remember the type of pillow) in the past and the feathers
poked through the pillow case and just annoyed me. Any special types
of fabrics, brand names, etc I should be looking for? Does BB and

You can get really great 600 TC sheets at Bed Bath & Beyond for about
$100. Worth every penny, they are really very nice, especially for the
price.
Don't forget Tuesday Morning. They usually have very nice sets
(sometimes up to 1000 TC) at reasonable prices.
Also check outlet malls for mill outlets. Westpoint Pepperell has an
outlet near my home and I've gotten some very nice linens there on the
cheap(er).

Thanks to all for the great suggestions. I"m going to check out our
local stores and outlets first to get a feel for what fabrics and
fillers (down/feather, thread count) suits me most. Then you've all
given me great ideas for online places to bargain shop! I appreciate
it so much! Beverly

I second overstock.com for great quality and low prices having
purchased
several times from them – 500+ tc cotton sheets, stainless cookware
set,
Tiffany–style table lamp, etc. – fast, cheap shipping too.
–sk
While I also love overstock.com, remember that they have an abysmal
return policy (restocking fees).

I'd like to upgrade our bed linens and comforter. The goal is softness
and comfort. For some new pillows and cases, sheets, and a comforter,
my budget is about $500. We don't have any high–end stores in our

Target had a sale thing in Sundays paper with 300/350 count
linens for a really good price fwiw!
I've also had much luck with BJ's and before them Cosco.
Did discover that not all 300 and above thread count linens
are created =.
Took 2 years of washing and drying one set before I could use
them without ironing. ;)
The heavy weight sateen, not the light weight stuff that was popular
years ago, are my favorites right now. The softness is amazing.
They wear like iron, don't flatten my hair and feel really great
against my skin.
They were also free which is entirely beside the point ;)
