Raves for Sharper Image customer service

"Parakeet" <s...@uce.gov>
Their website hated me <g> no matter how I fixed the damn cookies it
insisted it wanted, it would not process my order. I wanted the nifty
ultrasonic jewelry cleaner and the more the page mocked me the more I
wanted it...sick logic but it's the principle of the idea...sure it
is...
I called customer service and she suggested doing a find with the item
number and yyy after it, apparently that will bring up anything in
their inventory that is reduced or refurbished either from a return or
overstock.
She not only helped me spend my money but saved me 30 bucks by showing
me how to find the one in the clearance area, AND sometimes they
aren't shown in the clearance area you have to use the yyy (there is
also a zzz but she suggested never using that, it means the lowest
possible quality of return/refurbish)
I love Sharper Image service, it's so rare to find someone helpful,
it's even more rare to find a helpful person who will show me how to
save money.
I am a happy camper!

Please post a review of the ultrasonic jewelry cleaner after you've
tried it out. I've seen it in the catalog a couple of times and have
been very tempted. I agree with you about SI customer service, not
only are they nice, they are always knowledgeable and efficient. I
love the tip about using yyy, I'm going to have to browse and see
what's there!

I agree that Sharper Image has great customer service, and they need
to, because of their product line. They've done some genius marketing,
similar to that of Victoria's Secret. Some of the younger folks
weren't around when Sharp was a cheap KMart brand, and some marketing
firm did a wonderful job of presenting it's products as quality cutting
edge electronics and gizmos. The last two products I bought from them,
remote headphones for the TV and an emergency wind–up radio, didn't
work right out of the box. Consumer reports tested the air cleaners
Sharp advertises so much and gave it great marks for quietness,
asthetic design, etc., but the bottom line they concluded was that it
made no discernible difference in air quality. After I'd gone through
3 of their ultrasonic jewelry cleaners, replacing them about once a
year, I switched over to one from Hammacher and Schlemmer (sp?) and
that one has served me well for over 3 years so far. I try to stay
away from Sharper Image.

My husband has used one of their machines in his office that basically
makes white noise, and he has gone through two of them in twenty–five
years. I use a Sharper Image cd player in the kitchen and it is far
superior to the one Oprah raved about from Brookstone. I remember when I
used to spend hours looking through their catalogues. We've had a store
in town for the past three years and I've only been there once.

Confusion point here... there is also a company called Sharp
Electronics:
http://www.sharpusa.com/
I think of Sharp Electronics as competent but not outstanding
(probably much to the dismay of their genius marketers).
Consumer reports tested the air cleaners Sharp
I think you mean Sharper Image.
Sharp also makes air cleaners... but theirs use HEPA filters.
advertises so much and gave it great marks for quietness, asthetic

In fact, Consumer Reports pointed out that the machine can make a
discernible difference THE WRONG WAY (since it generates ozone).
Sharper Image sued Consumer Reports.
The US District Court for Northern California not only threw out the
case, but ordered Sharper Image to pay costs.
And in the "live by the sword, die by the sword" department: Sharper
Image is now the one getting sued... both by disgruntled customers and
disgruntled stockholders.
I try to stay away from Sharper Image.
IMHO: Any company that files (and loses!) SLAPP suits is a sleazeball.
Furthermore, most of the toys they sell can be gotten cheaper
elsewhere.

It's a shame he's on trial for fooling with kids instead of murder, he
could get millions of witnesses that could honestly swear "Michael
Jackson didn't kill me!" <grin/duck>
Some of the younger folks weren't around when Sharp was a
cheap KMart brand
Confusion point here... there is also a company called Sharp
Electronics:
http://www.sharpusa.com/
I think of Sharp Electronics as competent but not outstanding
(probably much to the dismay of their genius marketers).
Consumer reports tested the air cleaners Sharp
I think you mean Sharper Image.
Sharp also makes air cleaners... but theirs use HEPA filters.
advertises so much and gave it great marks for quietness, asthetic
design, etc., but the bottom line they concluded was that it made
no discernible difference in air quality.
Furthermore, most of the toys they sell can be gotten cheaper
elsewhere.

That Brookstone CD player was an absolute piece of junk. I got stuck
with one as my daughter didn't take it out of the box until months
after I'd given it to her. It sounded like the music was coming
through a tin can. As I've posted before, the robe Oprah suggested on
her Christmas list also was junk – hot polyester–feel 'cozy'
chenille–like stuff. I take Oprah's list now as a list of things to
stay away from.
