New Handbag Makeover

"Vicki in DC" <Nickycharles2...@yahoo.com>
Soooo, okay, it's finally springy enough for me to wear my pink bag
from Tarjay so I swapped my tan Stone Mountain out for it on Monday.
To my chagrin I found every woman in the coffee line this morning
seemed to have a pink bag. Harrumph, but I digress.
Target has no link to the bag so I'll describe it; it's a faux leather,
carnation pink tote about 12 inches long x 9 inches high x 4 inches
deep. It has double shoulder straps, a somewhat roomy outside zip
pocket, inside zip pocket, and two small pockets on either end, each
about 3 inches high, 2 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Each end pocket
has round silver pushlocks. I love the bag for having all these pockets
to organize my stuff but have been doing a lot of reshuffling of my
stuff and this is only day 2 carrying this bag! Even after dumping
everything out of my Stone Mtn, and purging what I really don't need to
haul around, I'm still reshuffling. Everything may be in its specific
spot to stay at this point but then again....
I guess I'm starting this thread b/c I feel silly for compulsively
reshuffling stuff in the different pockets of my new bag but then again
we all have stuff we want to bury deep in our bags and things we need
to grab quickly and maybe some of these change from day to day. And
pockets are big this spring from high end bags down to low end. Is
anyone else doing this reshuffle w/ new handbags? On a related note,
who's trying to purge the amount of stuff they carry? What are you
keeping and what's going?

I love the spring handbags at Target and pink is such a great color. I
think the rain and winter–like weather has finally ended so I pulled out
my new Furla "ginger" handbag http://www.furla.com/ I have the cream
one. It is smaller than some of my other every day handbags so I have
purged the extra pens, cough drops, kleenex. I'm using a soft case for
my sunglasses because two hard cases take up too much room. I have two
lipsticks, one gloss and one mirrored Armani compact with pressed
powder. One lipstick is Nars dolce vita and the other is BB warm
apricot. The handbag has a cell phone holder inside and one inside
pocket where I keep my sweet n low, WW card and business cards. I'm
trying not to use the outside pocket. I have a small wallet, checkbook,
one pen, key ring and notebook. I go back and forth about keeping my
calendar in it. It's useful but just another item to add to the rest.
I have a small package of kleenex and a white handkerchef.

It's just a shame I went and bought all kinds of regular wallets before I
came to this revelation of carrying everything in a much less bulky way.
I'm kind of doing a variation on this. I don't carry a wallet at all
any more. I have a little flat beaded purse (for lack of a better
word) that's about 6" long and 4 " tall. It's covered on the front
with silver beads with a pink monogrammed "L" (very Laverne and
Shirley!). In it I keep my cash and change, as well as other little
things such as ATM slips, receipts, and a packet of postage stamps.
At one time I had a separate little beaded pouch for coins, but it was
too much of a hassle. This little beaded bag just gets moved from
purse to purse as I change (not often).
The check book is separate. Sometimes I carry it, sometimes I don't.
My day–to–day handbag has little slots in the side for drivers
licence, debit card, and other cards. I usually store them there but
since I went out last weekend they all got dumped into the "L" bag.
It's been a long time since I've carried a wallet. They are too big
and bulky to fit into the types of handbags that I like.

At least a couple times a week, I switch to a fairly small purse for
evening. I don't need room for my camera, notepad, etc. Still, it is hard
to fit in everything I *must* have with me. I find that using the smallest
possible purse on occasion helps me control the size of the "must carry"
pile. I mean, do I really need to have a jeweler's loupe with me when I go
out to dinner?

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've found myself trying to shrink what would normally be a regular sized
wallet with cards and change into something smaller and smaller. It
started with the pull–out ID case in one of my smaller Lodis wallets.
Then I found a more elaborate Lodis ID case on eBay that had room for
more cards and a zipper change purse in the center, and that became where
I kept my license and "vital" credit cards. But the zipper part wasn't
large enough to hold more than a dollar and a quarter, so I found a round
pink leather zipper change purse at the Coach outlet for carrying cash.
Then I wanted to downsize out of the original wallet entirely, since by
then it was only holding all the other cards (medical, ATM, etc) and
various receipts. Coach outlet to the rescue again, with a bright pink
case that is designed only to hold cards, and a lot of them. (Levenger
makes a similar style, but I found the Coach one for a better price.)
So now I'm carrying three separate items instead of a single wallet, but
together they take up much less space in my bag, especially since the ID
and change cases together can fit in any tiny inner wall zip pocket.

So now I'm carrying three separate items instead of a single wallet, but
together they take up much less space in my bag, especially since the ID
and change cases together can fit in any tiny inner wall zip pocket.
It's just a shame I went and bought all kinds of regular wallets before I
came to this revelation of carrying everything in a much less bulky way.
