do eyelashes go gray?

marnie_j...@yahoo.com
Just wondering..... I think I am seeing a little loss of color on a few
upper lashes near the roots on the outer corner of one eye... does this
happen?
I know eyebrow hairs go gray (I've had a few of those), but not sure
about eye lashes.

My Mom's did; not completely, but it's fairly noticeable when she's not
wearing mascara. Mine haven't (yet, anyway) and I'm about the same age
she was when hers started to gray. hth, kpr54

My *LASHES* have been half greyish–very faint dishwater blonde (close to the
eye) and half pitch black (at the curly part towards the end) for as long as
I can remember. The color stops and starts at the halfway point, in other
words, which I've *never* seen on anyone else's eyes that I know. (Everybody
else's seem to be one color the whole way through, although I'm not really a
person who gets all in to people's personal space and randomly checks their
eyeball too often...LOL)
Therefore, I began wearing a little bit of Estee Lauder mascara as early as
the seventh grade behind my parent's back so my father wouldn't have a total
snit fit. When I put on mascara that's dark brown or black you can't even
tell and my lashes are *very* long to begin with.
Only a choice few who've kissed me when I didn't have on any makeup have
ever even noticed this and they thought it was cool how the "Wow...the tips
are so much darker at the end than on the rest of the lash!!! That's
awesome!"
I don't know if eyelashes can automatically *turn* grey like in your fifties
or anything, though. I guess I've never looked closely enough. BROWS can,
however. I don't ever get grey brow hairs, but my Grandmother was a firey
natural Irish redhead and even though my eyebrows are dark black, I get an
occasional very light strawberry blonde one every now and again and I just
pluck it out and blame it my genes from her. My brows are so damned dark
that if I get like two or three stray red ones in the middle, it looks *very
noticeable*. :–)

I have a few grey hairs in my eyebrows. I don't wear eyebrow pencil or
powder, so I pluck them. So far that's worked as I have plenty of
eyebrow hair. My lashes have not turned grey, and I haven't noticed
anyone with grey lashes. Visiting my mom at a nursing home, where
precious few of the residents wear makeup, I haven't noticed anyone
with grey lashes. So from my observations I would say greying lashes
are not the norm.

I think one or two may go gray... I have a gray one. However, I don't think
that they go gray in the sense that a head of hair would.

What causes hair to go grey? I always wanted to know. And it's not
always an age thing.
I've had strands of grey hair since my late teen's.

I really don't know. There are some hair people on this board and hopefully
they will see your post.

Thanks for all your responses. Seems like it's not too common, but can
happen! I'll post if I find out any other info on this.

Actually, no it didn't hurt, but they give an injection in each eyebrow
with Novacaine. That stung just a tiny bit. Oooooh, I am sooooooooo
pleased with the results!!!!! He gave me just a tiny bit more arch
than I already had (things begin to sag on our faces as we get older –
like I didn't already know that). I've had so many compliments and
it's nice to know that no matter what my face may look like when I
awake, the eyebrows ALWAYS look good! Hahahaha

I'm starting to get some salt–n–pepper in the hair, which I do take care
of, as vain as I am. :) I also am getting some white/gray brow hairs
every once in a while, which I either pluck immediately or touch them up
with an eyebrow pencil.
As for lashes, still very dark. Not as thick and lush as I would like,
but still no gray/white ... for now. :)
I won't admit my real age. :(
Oh well. :)
