Project Runway finale

"K.M." <drew13...@aol.com>
Did anyone else catch the Project Runway finale last night? I just
started watching a couple weeks ago, but really loved this show.
Hoping it will come out on DVD so I can watch the entire season. I
loved Jay's designs last night, especially the brown skirt with the big
colorful circles on it, because I would totally buy that! I thought
his line was a great mix of couture stuff that no–one normal ever
actually wears (but stuff you always see in shows) and unique but still
not too out–there stuff that people like myself would buy. Wasn't sure
what the point of the headphones was though. I loved some of Kara
Saun's stuff too, but didn't really dig the "aviator" theme. Wendy's
show was a little bit of a mess, IMO. Some of her dresses were nice,
really liked the final corset dress, but didn't seem to have a unifying
theme. I know she mentioned something about the leaves, but if she was
going for the nature thing, where did the hot pink satin dress with
pearls fit in? I loved the dress, but felt it stuck out a little bit.
And I think she totally ignored Tim's (?) advice about starting out
with a bang, because her first two outfits were totally boring and
uninspired.
I only saw the last few episodes, so maybe someone can explain to me
why everyone hated Wendy Pepper so much? She seemed a little cold, but
not the mega*itch that everyone made her out to be. Unless she really
did something awful in those earlier episodes, I don't get it. I
thought it seemed really cruel that they kept telling her she was
untalented and didn't deserve to be there. She has her own design
business, she won a couple of the challenges, and even the judges
agreed that she "could tailor a Kleenex" so she clearly has talent. I
would agree that her designs are a little boring for my tastes; she's
definitely not as creative as Jay. But when Kara Saun starting going
on about doing it for the art and not wanting to be involved with
strategizing, etc. I was thinking that Kara's going to have a really
rude awakening when she actually gets into the fashion world and
realizes that not everyone is sweetness and light. I've never worked
in fashion myself, but from everything I've seen and read, there are a
lot of phonies, and a lot of people getting by on politics and
connections rather than talent (unfortunately). I hate people that are
all judge–y like that and was a pretty amused when Kara Saun was called
out on the shoe thing.

You can see all the reruns on Bravo. I'm sure they will be shown many
times. I am really happy that Jay won especially after seeing all of
the women in his family and where he lived. He is truly a creative
genius. I think Kara's designs were more wearable for the average
person but Jay's showed more vision.
Wendy said a lot of nasty things about the other designers. Jay told her
she didn't have a soul. Part of it was probably hype to add interest to
the show but basically she separated herself from the others. She
rarely listened to Tim's advice and many of her designs were boring.

I was happy that Jay won, also. He grew up as a kind of outcast in his
small town environment, and I am thrilled that he will be able to
express himself through his designs. I thought all three collections
were excellent. Wendy's was the most wearable for the "average"
person, IMO. (Middleburg, VA is about 20 minutes from where I live,
but is its own little world...very "horsey" and "old money Virginia".
I was impressed that her grandmother's home is part of the National
Trust, but I digress.) However, it was definitely not outrageous
enough for fashion week. Kara Saun works as a costume designer and has
many doors open to her, so I am glad Jay won and got the opportunity
made available to him.

I was torn between Kara and Jay. I really thought Kara was going to
win; I was voting for her. At the end, I agree with the judges and
their decision––Jay is extremely creative. He had more originality in
his collection than Kara. As for Wendy, she can sew but she lacked a
cohesive theme. I really wish I could see Austin's "decoy" collection.
Hopefully there will be a season 2!!

ps: as for the shoe thing––Kara did have a point: Michael Korrs
donated shoes for them to use, which was gratis. If the rules were to
be strictly complied with, then the producers should have never
permitted this shoe donation andmade it clear to the designers that
they needed to include shoes in their design process.

A video of Austin's decoy collection is on the Project Runway/Bravo web

Thanks for mentioning it. I just watched it and could not find a way to
enlarge the video box so I couldn't see much detail on the clothing. He must
have been thrilled to have had the opportunity, and then to have his work
available online for everyone to see. Unfortunately I found the music boring
and de–energizing, like something you might see on a sappy movie remake
Little House on the Prairie. JMHO of course.

But everyone had equal access to those shoes from MK, which were not
very special and came jumbled in an old box. Not everyone had access to
a friend at Dollhouse. That was the point.
But onto to Aviator! Did anyone notice when Tim visited Kara Saun all
the Dover costume books in her kitchen? For those of you are not
familiar with Dover, they are a great publishing house that (among
other things) reprint old fashion plates. For any vintage clothing
lover or sewing gal, they are a fun resource. Well, I have a whole
shelf of Dover books, and Kara Saun basically copied her designs from
the 30's costume book. Forget ripping off Gucci! Her whole collection
was copied from other sources. She is so fake!

Looking at the clothes, though, Austin's stuff was beautiful.
Ironically, if Austin had not been eliminated, he might of won with
that collection.
