I just bought a burgandy leather jacket from Ann Taylor and it
scratches so easily! There are a few marks on it from where the
buttons have hit the leather and I accidentally scratched it with my
fingernail. What can I do to stop this? I am going to have a really
scratched up jacket if this keeps up. Waahh!
Yes... the first scratches are always painful to see on a leather item
whether it be a jacket or purse. Don't worry tho, it is part of the process
of leather aging the scratches will soon fade and burnish, leaving your
leather jacket with a desirable patina (think vintage bike jackets). If you
really don't like it, you could gently rub your clean fingertip over the
scratch and it will burnish into the leather. However, too much rubbing
could lead to spots from the oils from your fingertip. The best thing is to
enjoy your jacket and over time the leather will develop a nice lustre.
