animal skins, the use of fur and a few BOGAN facts.

I love all that stuff – I am so happy because i just found a vintage
snakeskin bag at a garage sale. – what a bargain $1 !
I am in australia – middle of summer – so its not really the right time of
year here to be wearing leather or fur BUT wool is fine, and the great thing
about the sheepskin boots ( im not allowed to say ugg–boots ) is that they
are cool in summer and warm in winter – but mine are so worn out that they
are now my gardening boots – and most importantly, they are my snake_stopper
boots.
Where i live, there are SO many snakes.. and 98% are poisonous (deadly, not
just make you sick). I love the snakes and respect that i am on their land
and they are so timid by nature that you are lucky to see them really.
However, if a snake is cornered or feels threatened it can strike so
quickly. its only common sense to be wearing boots that keep my feet cool as
well.
so to all you americans in rattlesnake country (or whatever poisonous snake
lives in your area) – I am letting you know from australia – dont chuck your
uggies in the bin, they are most useful and have been a staple item in the
wardrobe of every self respecting bogan in australia. I am an expert on the
bogan phenomena as I was born and raised in the bogan heartland, BALGA –
Western Australia. I invented the term 'bogan chic' as a tribute to W.S.
Burroughs' interesting writings ' the electronic revolution '. I began using
it in conversation and online – passing on the virus so to speak.
I wanted to see if it grew and recently, to my utter surprise – i saw it in
the newspaper !!!! it was a fashion prediction!!!!
I was SO excited and it was really funny because i never expected it to
happen so quickly – I am so interested to see if it takes off, that would be
hilarious! (BOGANS, and their eastern states counterparts WESTIES are oft
derided members of the lower classes, i guess they would maybe compare with
the american 'trailer trash' type..very jerry springer – but not fat) Many
bogan males sport mullets and because I have bogan blood, I have never
understood the mullet jokes and find the mullet a sexy haircut. I would
describe the Bogan male as not the OPPOSITE of the metrosexual, but maybe
more like the metrosexuals' nemisis.(sp?)
Anyhow, for myself..i have always some kind of variation of the bogan look
(84 – 85 excluded ) – I have observed that the bogan has always embraced the
use of leather and skins. We are generally carnivorous, and see no reason
for not using as much of the dead animal as possible – fur, skins and
leather are very useful and I just cant get enough.
I wonder if animal rights activists wear leather shoes (i cannot wear
synthetic shoes – they are so craptacular)...I wonder if they are all
vegetarian or if they use fly spray...I wonder if they would kill a poison
snake if it lived in their garden. I wouldnt, but i would gladly use the
skin of a dead one some idiot had killed. The bogan is a staunch realist –
the male is most often found working as mechanics, farmhands, welding,
shearing etc. They easily blend in with the Bikers and are often confused
with the goths.
Bogan females can be found working as barmaids, waitresses, and single mums
on the pension and represent a significant percentage of the australian
population. They are most attracted to the bogan male driving a car such as
a monaro or hotted up valiant, though this is not a hard and fast rule.
* people may question where the word 'bogan' originated from.
I am not completely certain, but i imagine it evolved in the following
manner, as i have heard all of these following words used to describe
certain bogan traits.
bodgie (as in bodgies and widgies–think fonzie and pinkie tuxtedero)
bog (a shortened and demeaning version of bodgie)
bogan...the current generation of bodgie descendants.
A few bogan friends have also suggensted it may have risen from the bogan's
choice of the Bouganvillea as a cheap and impenetrable property boundary
protection from 'snow droppers' (clothes line thieves) and 'fence jumpers'
(people who jump from yard to yard, seeking marijuana plants). I personally
find this explanation unlikely.
The season of the bogan will be glorious indeed!
