I just checked the http://news.individual.net/ website and there
is an announcement that news.individual.net aka "the german
newsserver" will no longer be free starting April 1, 2005!
They will charge 10E/year.
As if newsgroup service is SUPPOSED to be free? It does take some
resources to provide it.
I don't know when they announced this change but it's too bad
because some of the AOLers could have used this free server.
If you're paying $23.95 a month to get on the Internet (or AOL's
version of it), an additional 10 Euro/year is less than 5%
additional... a drop in the bucket.
Of course, it's undoubtedly possible to pay less and get more.
Maybe they announced it concurrent with AOL's announcement
so they wouldn't be deluged with AOLers looking for free ng service.
They've been considering it for a while.
I'd suspect the deluge of AOL users would probably push it over the
brink given what they did when AOL added FTP.
