My New Winter Boots > Find or Faux Paus?

stephanie <stepha...@keybeaute.com>
I know it's the middle of February, but I just got winter boots – snow
boots. I found them online. Patent leather. Moderate traction sole.
Midcalf with zipper. $50. They arrived yesterday.
I try them on. They fit like slippers. "I like them" I think. I take
them off and place them across the room to assess style at a distance.
They remind me of something. What? What? Then it comes to me. I could
have snatched them from a mall Santa. Please tell me if my quest for
style and utility has resulted in a find or a failure before I have to
wear them out of the house. There's more snow in the forecast. TIA.

They are, admittedly, a little santa like, but only now that you
mention it!!
But, I like them – a lot – anyway. These would be very practical *yet
stylish* in the snow (santa, afterall, knows what he's doing!).
It's been relatively warm here lately, and even if it doesn't snow
again, I would buy a pair of these on sale for next year.
I bought a pair of suede boots at the beginning of the season (not on
sale) and I've worn them only three times. Seemed like a really good
idea. But, alas, I can't risk wearing them when it's wet or snowy out,
and because they have heels, I can't wear them when it's icy or
slippery out. Which means I had only three occasions this winter so far
to wear them! Despite the fact they are quite stylish, lightweight, and
uber–comfortable. Sigh.
Wear your boots and enjoy them. Practical and stylish is good!

They're fine. The style is simple enough that the patent won't look
silly. Put that "Santa" thing out of your mind. (And don't wear them
with an ermine–trimmed red suit!)
Here's the thing: snow boots will never be gorgeous; the best one can
do is "innocuous" or "unexceptionable". Those boots are just fine.

Hate to be a party pooper but I agree with the Santa assessment.
Personally, when the snow is deep enough that I need to be wearing snow
boots I'd rather have something really utilitarian (and I guess sort of
rugged–chic). I have a pair of Salomon snow boots, and have also liked
styles from Columbia and Sorel. If there are snowdrifts lying around I
just kind of give up on wearing stylish shoes.
I wouldn't buy snow boots this late in the season unless I lived WAY
north and knew I wouldn't get by for another month without them, or
unless they were really, really really on sale. These aren't on very
much of a sale.

the boots I think of when I think of Santa !)

Well, they DO look sort of like Santa's boots but I wouldn't have
thought of that if you hadn't pointed them out. However, Santa's boots
are the only part of his outfit that doesn't look ridiculous! If you
were to get something that resembled his hat or suit, I'd send them back
immediately. The boots, on the other hand, are plain and utilitarian
enough that I don't think that kids will be asking you for toys while
you're walking down the street.

Steph, I think they're adorable––mad cute! Not Santa–esque at all.
(For my own info, are these snug at the top? Can the width at the calf
be adjusted? Most boots are just too wide for me but these look so
cute I'm tempted...)

they are truly cute boots, but BEWARE, i doubt that they will
"breathe"...............your feet might get quite hot and sweaty.

I think they're fun and funky. They don't look Santa at all
to me, but maybe we have more boring Santas over here!

Dennis,
I had trouble, too, but just kept trying. It finally worked.

I think they're fine, and only Santa like in shininess, not style. And
as many have mentioned here, it's only because you pointed it out and
people are susceptible to suggestion.
When I think of Santa I think of boots with buckles, or fur tops. Do an
image search on Google for "Santa Boot" and you won't find boots that
look exactly like yours!
Stay warm. :)

Thanks to all for the input! I'm going to give them a whirl. EMD, they
are loose enough to tuck pants into – but that's not a look for me – I'd
feel too Santa–ish. I will wear them under slight bell–bottom jeans or
pants that could be rolled above ankle – just enough to trudge through
snowy, watery mush and not destroy long pants. I will not wear them with
red pants and ermine coordinates. I will report back if any small kids
ask if I'm an elf. Thanks again.

I like them. They do not look too Santa–like to me at all. I think you did
a good job picking them out.
