OT: Orange County Nice Eatery Near SCP

"Frayed" <fra...@ix.netcom.comnobush>
Hi,
Sorry for the OT but if I can't turn to AF for good advice
especially in the vicinity of one of our great shopping
outlets, then who? My cousin is in on business from
Melbourne (Australia) and I would like to take her
and her colleague to a nice and scenic place. The
only limit is that it shouldn't be Asian as she doesn't
have an interest in that. Price isn't much of a barrier.
A good view of the ocean is a HUGE plus, even
though I suspect it will be raining. We will be staying
across the street from the Plaza, so transportation
hints are also welcome as we will be wheel–free.
For ex: how do we get to HB or NB without a
car?
Thanks in Advance!
Karen

HI there
you might want to think about crab cooker for something local funky..
also there is the warehouse, rusty pelican
josh slocum (I think that's still there) as well as some other spots
that aren't ocean view but are really good.. like the restaurant in the
4 seasons fashion island, pascal, and more!

Public transportation is horrible in southern CA! You really might think
about renting a car. Unless you want to take a bus...and I don't know anyone
who does, your only means of transportation is by cab...and that can get
costly.
Close to where you are staying are some great restaurants, but I am sure you
want to get out.
Right in SCP is The Clubhouse. This is the restaurant owned by Kevin Costner
Mortons is in South Coast Village, and Scotts Seafood is probably in the
hotel you're stayin at (or very close!)
If you venture to Huntington Beach, there is Dukes right on the pier, with
Chimayo's by the Beach right below. There are lots of new and fun
restaurants on Main St, but they don't offer the ocean view.

You probably need to rent a car if you want to go anywhere with an ocean
view.
Within walking distance, I recommend Darya if you'd like to try Persian
food. It's in South Coast Village.

In the SCP there is a Il Fornaio, and it is well worth a stop.

Actually, Il Fornaio is over by Orange County Airport, not in SCP.

KB is right! It is. It's over near Pascal isn't it?

Frayed is the OP, correct? She can go to Il Fornaio at home. Though I guess
her guest cannot ;)
It's often frustratingly hard to find a combo of good view and good food. So
often you get one or the other. Grrrrr.
Yes, it's me, I can go to IF. It turns out my cousin loves and wants to go to
Maggiano's! Which I also have at home ;) She can pick where ever she
wants to go :) It's fine with me, I just hope I even make it down there
this weekend this time! Thanks for all the input, AF rawks, as usual.

Yeah, like Dallas for instance....I live 30 miles north of Dallas....we
have no transportation here at all...Sheesh you are lucky to find a Taxi
that will come pick you up out here...I always laughed that my ex wanted
to move here considering the fact he didn't let me drive (notice I said
EX!!)...I guess it was safer to keep me stranded out here...I think its
sad for the kids...because when I grew up in LA we were all over the
place by the Public Bus...we didn't have to wait on our parents as we
were totally mobile ourselves. The kids have no where to go out here...
the buses in the areas closer to Dallas run once an hour...and they
finally have a rail system here but it stops at the city south of me and
everyone north commutes to that station and parking is limited and many
people wait and wait for the train in the am as they are all
full....that would be a clue that we needed to do something more about
the public transportation...but someone once told me that the minute you
introduce public transportation you immediately raise the crime rate...I
found that quite interesting....Quick rob that house...the next bus by
will be here in 30 minutes!!!
Regarding the original thread....does the hotel provide any
transportation other than taxis? Sometimes you can get them to drop you
off at a mall and then they will pick you up at a later time. You can
also rent a car for just one day and get out and putz around down there....
