It seems to me globalisation is hurting fashion the way it's hurt the
music industry: to reach the greatest number of consumers manufacturers
produce goods that are bland and safe and exploit the tried and tested
formulas. Wherever you go in the world, you see pretty much the same
trends, maybe a few months off depending on the season.
I wonder if this will push people towards taking up sewing, or perhaps
saving up for custom made clothes.
For myself, I am now scouring Ebay for vintage and unusual stuff much
more than I used to.

About tried and tested formulae: Vanilla has been the #1 flavor for
years. World demand is approximately 2 kilotons of vanilla beans per
year, and quite a bit of the fake stuff in addition.
