Danier Shearling RANT!

"cofarb" <do...@cofarb.com>
I posted about enabling the purchase of a supposedly gorgeous shearling wrap
coat from Danier.com, on sale from over a thousand dollars to $350. My
mother had me order the coat as a gift for my sister–in–law. Several
rant–worthy issues that other a.f.ers might want to know about:
1. They sent it to the wrong address! This was a gift––and I know they had
my sil's address because it was repeated to me on the phone. They sent it
to my mother instead.
2. They never sent any sort of confirmation. This was supposed to come to
me via email. If they had sent confirmation, I would have seen that they
were sending the coat to the wrong address.
3. Most importantly, the coat was a huge disappointment. It differed
significantly from the video clip on the web site. The video shows a simple
wrap coat; the coat that was received had three buttonholes (but only 2
buttons!) According to my mom and sil, the turn–back shearling on the cuffs
was not simply a continuation of the shearling, but rather a different
substance that my sil said seemed pretty crappy, almost "faux". The exposed
shearling at the neckline was ratty and everyone thought it would be likely
to pill horribly! The coat differed from the video in some other ways, too,
none of them to the advantage of the coat which was actually received.
I just got off the phone with Danier and they said I will hear from their "e
commerce" people on Monday.
I am disappointed on so many levels. I hope I can save some other a.f.ers
from making the same mistake.

Well, poo! I wonder if they sent the wrong coat as well as sending it
to the wrong address. That sounds like a fiasco from start to finish.

I asked my sil if she thought it was the wrong coat entirely. She wasn't
sure. But the overall quality of it sounds crappy––not anything you'd
expect from the descriptions on the site.
phooey!

I'm sorry to hear about your rotten Danier experience, cofarb. I
haven't ordered from them online in a long time but I recently had an
excellent experience at their b&m store in Paramus, NJ. However, the
problem did begin with the website, where they seemed to indicate the
availability of women's coats with zip–out Thermolite linings. Well,
no such coat was to be found, either online or in the store. However,
the darling manager took my number and followed up with a call, letting
me know I could come back to the store, pick out a coat, and they would
send it to Canada to have a lining sewn in. And so it came to pass! I
was very pleased, to put it mildly. But it was odd that they advertise
zip–out linings and then don't offer them.
Hope your sitch resolves satisfactorily.

I could swear that they are *still* advertising leather coats with zip–out
Thermolite linings! I'm sure I saw at least one on their website last week.

"I am so glad I didn't buy one. can you imagine how ticked off I would be if
that happened to me? I dithered over this coat. Thought and thought and
thought. Cofarb enabled me.. or attempted to... and I hesitated. I still
haven't gotten my skirt yet

Has anyone bought one of their women's handbags? Some of them
look quite attractive and reasonably priced.

I've never bought one, but I have fondled them in a B&M store. They seem
well made, and the leather was uniform and thick. I wouldn't call it butter
soft though. At the time (this was 1–2yrs ago), the styles seemed inspired
by Coach et al. Basically decent quality "inspired by" handbags. I had
just bought a Coach bucket purse at the time, so I refrained.
FWIW, their leather gloves were quite lovely, but I couldn't find my size in
a decent color.

While I'm sorry to hear that you and your sister–in–law were
disappointed (as am I since I was planning to order one of the coats!),
thanks for the quick heads–up on the problems. I'm glad that I usually
place online orders on weekends and saw your post before the deed was
done!
