Queer Eye for the Straight Girl

Adrav <nos...@nospam.com>
We watched the first three episodes (admittedly fast–forwarding through
some parts) and will probably pass on TiVo–ing further shows. It seems
like such a 'poor girl's' version of the boys' show. I mean, the
furniture mostly comes from downscale stores, the woman only gets a few
pieces of clothing and, to top it off, she has to do her own makeup and
hair! As for the "Gal Pals," the less said, the better. :)
Any comments?

I watched the first episode for about ten minutes and turned it off.
The cast is not nearly as much fun, to put it mildly, as the Fab Five.
Blech, sez I. I'll stick with my darlings, thankyouverymuch.

Why are your posts showing up three at a time? This happened the other day.
I got one of your posts four times that day. Just wondering what's going on
with your newsreader...
Thanks.

EMiriamD, formerly of aol.com is now of gmail.com so she's probably
using google groups to post now.

Hmmm......Well, why is Google posting her posts three at a time then? Tons
of people I know use Google and that doesn't happen with their posts. What
gives?
Thanks.

Messed up posts from Google probably indicates Google is running in
AOL compatibility mode. <grin/duck>

I kind of like that the Straight Girl version gets into a little
self–help, you–go–girl attitude – Honey seems especially caring and
empowering. The male gal pals are nondescript, unmemorable, and
useless.
I also noticed that they basically give the women one outfit, to wear
on the show, and don't get into helping them gain fashion skills. The
dress they had the woman with all the wild hair the other night was
extremely unflattering, her bra showed through the lowcut underarms (I
couldn't believe they let her out like that!), and the shoes didn't
complement the dress at all. Stacey and Clinton would have been
appalled!

One of the "male gal pals" not infrequently wears really cool retro
sneakers.

I think that the male gal pals are working on being a little more
memorable. I don't know how many of you saw last night's episode, but
it seems like the guys really starting to get their own personalities.
I really like the shrug that they got for the girl in this past episode

My read of the few shows I've seen is that we have a group of people who
don't know how to work together quite yet. Call it first season jitters.
Having a successful Guy show to work off of, 60% of the hard work of a new
show is done. But interpersonal chemistry is a big part of why Qe–Guy is
better than Qe–Girl right now.
