Fragrance hits/misses

inky56NOS...@hellokitty.com (mL)
I'm usually not a try–before–you–buy sort of person, but lately have been
taking chances on some fragrances, based on descriptions and reviews i've
read.
Being currently intrigued by chocolate, vanilla and "candy" scents, i've tried
CSP Vanille Passion (LOVE IT!) and Serendipitous (LOVE IT!). Also L'occitane
vanilla which to me is more floral than edible but i like it very much too.
Even Body Fantasies "Cotton Candy" spray smells very pleasant to me.
I just tried a couple others that i'll probably be getting rid of.
BBW Tutti Dolci Chocolate Fondue.. i was hoping it might be similar to
Serendipitous. I can't smell anything sweet or edible about it at all.
Reminds me of tar. Although i do enjoy some other BBW scents.
Also, Demeter Sugar Cookie (my first – and probably last – Demeter). All i
could smell was chemical, sort of like nail polish remover.
No sweetness, no edibleness, no sugar or vanilla – maybe a little baby powder.
I wonder if it's just a chemistry thing, that not only our body oils affect
the scents, but our perception of them varies that much? I can understand
different people having different preferences, but how can something that
smells like a sweet baked sugar cookie to some people smell so different to
someone else?
(i still want to eat my bottle of Serendipitous!) :–)
And i LOVE the scent of Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion.

I suggest trying:
–CSP Vanille Cannelle which dries down to a less buttery Philosophy Cinnamon
Buns on me
–Suave Seasonal lotions in Toasted Vanilla & Sugar
–BBW vanilla body cream (forgot the name, has a pic of sugar & vanilla beans
on the tube)
–Crabtree and Evelyn vanilla which is my fav foodie vanilla scent

I agree that how the brain/nose is wired affects our opinion of scents.
People can have wildly different reactions to scents that are in the air.
