What's in your shower?

marnie_j...@yahoo.com
Just lemminged 2 new shampoos (Artec) and my shower is way too crowded!
In the shower (not under the sink or in the closet, but in the shower):
5 Body cleansers: Dove moisturing body wash, Swiss Ives silk (the
purple one), Perlier kiwi body scrub, BBW Bergamot&Coriander bar soap
(love this scent), BBW lemon oil body wash
7 Shampoos: Artec kiwi, Artec GingerRoot color depositing, JF Brilliant
Brunette, Pantene color revival, V05 pear&mango (love the scent but the
shampoo is harsh), BBW Bergamot&Coriander Hydrating, Avalon Organics
lavender
3 Conditioners: Pantene color revival, JF Brilliant Brunette, Pantene
sheer volume
I like to have a choice every day, but this is too many...

It's St. Ives, actually, but they call it a "Swiss Formula" on many of their
bottles. :–)
That Whipped Silk body wash is among the best I've ever used, by the way.
The Sunflower seed oil in it makes it amazingly moisturizing. The scent is
nice, too. Not too perfumey and just right. Good price, too. I'm on the
fence about the Whipped Silk lotion, however. I don't think it's as amazing
as the body wash, unfortunately, but at least it smells dynamite!!!!

Radio – who needs a radio when you've got a voice like mine (that is,
one that ONLY sounds good in the shower).

Yes, I love it for all those same reasons. Didn't like the purple
color at first, but I'm used to it by now. Last time I stocked up I
got it at Target, and it came with a little bottle of the lotion
attached. The lotion's OK, but not great – haven't bought a full size
and probably won't.

usually have music in a small round shaped CD boom box *near* but not *in*

frequently...usually something relaxing, but occasionally it's something
more "get up and go" like some Swing Music or Jazz. I think that Wynonna

recent ones I listened to while getting ready in the AM.

Actually in our shower, DF is the one with a zillion different
shampoos. Drives me crazy, since I'm more of a minimalist.
I don't remember the brands, but I currently have in there:
– Big bottle of gentle shampoo designed for color treated hair
– Small bottle of really fabulous leave–in conditioner (it just takes a
dab so it goes very far)
– Big bottle of cream rinse for color treated hair, which I use on days
I don't shampoo, to "shampoo" my hair (gets the gel and mousse and
hairspray out of it so I can run a comb through it, without being as
drying as shampoo)
– One bar of oatmeal soap
– A bottle of bubble bath that I never use, but I love the packaging so
I keep it in there (?)
– Razor
DF has a razor plus about 6 or 7 different types of shampoos at any
given moment, all cheapie drug store stuff, whatever is on sale.
We also keep one of those plastic scrunchy things, on a handle, it's
supposed to be for cleaning your back but we use it to scrub the shower
out. And a large squeegee for removing water off the marble so it
doesn't leave deposits.
There's also some hair balls usually clogging up the drain. :–)

It's funny – I always hear so many complaints about Pantene but it
works really well for me. I get bored of it, though, so switch to
different things regularly but always come back to it eventually.

Maybe you just have really super healthy and strong hair, so it's not
bothered your hair much? If that's the case, then you're lucky.
Pantene doesn't make my hair look bad either, but I've never used it for
days on end, as I tend to rotate my products frequently. I've used the
occasional free sample here and there and I've used it at my aunt's house
when I visited her in Alaska (she gets the big Costco size of Pantene and
sometimes Finesse, but she has really thick, curly, strong gorgeous hair and
it has not seemed to wreck it.)
Still, I've heard from *EVERY* hairstylist I've ever been to that Pantene is
like a death sentence for your hair. I've modeled my hair for instruction
classes before and they always tell the models *NEVER* to touch any Pantene
and if they're currently using it, to toss it as opposed to passing it off
on to somebody else.

FWIW, I use and like just–OK the shampoo for color–treated hair, use
and like a lot the conditioner for color–treated hair, and don't like
at all the Sheer Volume conditioner.
I'm also curious about the Pantene bashing. Paging Richard Hunter (or
whatever your new complicated moniker is!).
But FWIW, if you have color–treated hair, AVOID VOLUMIZING PRODUCTS at all
costs! They're super–drying and will quickly wreak havoc with your hair
color (speeding up oxidation and all those other nasty saboteurs in a
fraction of the usual time). Some companies do make volumizing products for
color–treated hair (Kerastase, for one) but in general these should be
avoided at all costs. Ditto for mousses (unless they're alcohol free). I've
even heard it's best to steer clear from gels (again, unless specifically
alcohol–free).

Does anyone know WHY hairsylists say this about Pantene? Is there a
particular ingredient that is a problem? Is there some science behind
the advice to avoid it? If so, I'd be glad to know what it is.

I've been told by many stylists and colorists that it's got too many
different silicones in it that coat the hair shaft. I was in the salon one
day and a lady's Pantene had *built up* on her hair and even a clarifying
shampoo wouldn't remove all of the dullness and coating that the Pantene had
brought on.

notice in the Pantene[1] commercials you never see the women run
their hands thru their hair. you see them shaking it or
something, but that's it. ever wonder why that is? :)
[1] i remember back in the 1980s when Pantene was a new thing.
Kelly LeBrock was a spokesperson for them. her lines were
something like, "my hair was dull and lifeless. until i started
using Pantene." my mom thought she said 'pnaties.' OK, YOU CAN
ALL LAUGH NOW!! :)

You know the last time I got my hair done the stylist next to mine was
telling his client never, ever to use Pantene. I wanted to ask why but never
got the chance. Personally I don't use it but I wondered why he was so
persistent about not using it.

Pantene has a sh*tload of detergents in it – more than any other
drugstore shampoo, from what i understand. a fellow stylist used
it for two weeks (i don't know why). while shampooing her hair,
i found that i couldn't get my fingers thru her hair – i actually
had to condition it first, so i could get my fingers into it;
shampoo it; then condition it again. yuck!

Yup! That's what Laura and Leanne from a salon I used to go to BOTH told me
in some of their ongoing Pantene horror stories. They spoke of having to
condition the client FIRST and then try to shampoo and Laura's fingers got
stuck, as did another stylist's fingers when Laura tried to bring *HER* over
and shampoo the same woman's hair.
That other stylist was telling me, Laura, and Leanne about having one time
to *scrape* the Pantene off some woman's hair prior to coloring it. That
lady used Pantene shamp, cond., mousse and hair spray–––the whole
collection, apparently.
Yuyi, Erica, and Adam, from three other salons I've visited in that past
five years had a lot of Pantene horror stories, too, and just hated the
stuff; acting like it was the Satan of all hair products. Don't know why,
but I've heard from a lot of stylists that Biolage sucks in sort of the same
manner. I like Biolage's cond. balm, but I must say I hate their shampoos.
