OT: cold/flu

lutach...@aol.com (Lutachris)
Anyone else have a really bad cold/flu? I have been monstrously sick for days–
headache, body aches, nausea, runny nose.....before today, I could not even sit
up to read the computer screen. I feel immensely UNfashionable ...(misery loves
company).

We don't have the flu (I'm happy to say) but all 4 in my family have severe
colds. We are just getting over them; we've had them for almost 2 weeks.
The old wive's tale says "Three days coming, three day here, and three days
going." That pretty much holds true for us. Except the 1 year old. He's
still in the throes of his – coughing at night and lots of drainage. The
downside of an immature immune system. And we're desperately trying not to
reinfect him with the same cold.
I'm sorry you've been feeling so poorly. Our pity to you and hope you feel
better soon.

I have the worst cold that I've had in 4 years. I remember because the
last time I was this sick I was pregnant. Everyone in my house has been
sick for the past 2 months with sore throats and congestion and
coughing. After this though we should be paid up for the year and
shouldn't get sick again until 2006!

I am on day three of boredom from being sick with congestion and very, very
sore throat. I am a grumpy patient.

have you tried Mucinex? i'm sure you've seen the commercial on
TV – the little phlegm guy moving in? anyway, it's available
OTC, and works great! for the sore throat, try gargling with
warm/hot–ish salt water. sea salt is best, IMO. you only need
1/2 teaspoon per 8 oz water.

Feel better! Forget about fashion and go for "comfort clothes"––the
softest, warmest, least binding stuff in your wardrobe.
Good luck,

No flu, but what started as a cold 2 weeks ago mutated into a massive sinus
infection over last weekend. Everyone in my family has had the cold from hell,
some have had it twice in the past month. I've never had a cold like this that
actually laid me up for days.
Take care of yourself. Hope you feel better soon.

awww! i hope you feel better soon! try vitamin C (the tablets –
chewables tend to irritate the throat when one is ill); it really
does help boost your immune system.

my diet: vit C, multi vit, broth, watered down OJ, toast. really cannot taste
much, so it does not matter. going nuts in house....it is about 10F outside so
I do not actually want to go out either....now we are going to have a giant (so
they say) snow storm...greeeaaat. I have finally had some moments to read some
piled up fashion magazines, but due to congestion, fever, do not recall what I
read!

Two counties here in WA state (Luckily they're not my own county and they're
not neighboring counties of mine, either....totally different area of the
state...) have developed a huge amount of flu cases practically overnight.
It was on the news two nights ago. Tons of kids didn't go to school, parents
called in sick, people showed up at the local hospital, etc. It's that time
of year, I guess...

I use Vitamin C crystals from Trader Joe's. They're rather exensive, mind
you, and a medium sized container costs about $13.00 compared to the three
dollar small bottles I *could* be getting at Rite Aid or Long's Drugs, but
they dissolve in your juice immediately and are supposed to enter the blood
system considerably faster.
I haven't had any colds or flu all Winter, so I'm sold on them. They're
quite bitter, though, so I put them in juice and not in water like some
people I have met; preferably in orange or cranberry juice...something
really acidic/strong and non–carbonated. They taste kind of funky in apple
juice. I tried that before and won't go there again.

I'm not sick at the moment, thankfully, but I find reading my "Big book of
awful diseases and medical conditions" cheers me up considerably when ill.
Yes I'm a nursing student ;oD
I hear Med students are worse!

Many of those have treatments. The common cold doesn't. <grin/duck>

I've heard they sometimes think they're coming down with exotic
diseases after reading about them.
