re dark/red lipstick

A little OT on this thread, but whenever I wear dark/red lipstick I
feel like a clown because my lips are very full. Does anyone else feel
like this? I've noticed that Angelina Jolie rarely wears dark
lipsticks, but tends to stick w/ more neutral or dusty rose or matte
plums. I wonder what she would look like if she wore a really
brilliant red.
Since I seem to be unable to reply to that thread, might as well start
a new one with this. I hear you. My mouth is smaller, but my lips are
very plump and full, and it has the 'cupid's bow' shape. If I wear red
or dark lipstick with full coverage, I look like a fifties pin–up girl
who has a serious case of pouting or perhaps has just met an angry
bee.
Most neutrals wash me out, and nudes don't show up or make me like I
have foundation on my mouth. So I wear colors, but really sheer ones,
so the look is more tinted or stained than actually lipsticked. And no
lipliner.
Sometimes just lip balm.

Have you tried a matte red lipstick? Matte formulations tend to
tighten the skin and draw your lips inward. A makeup artist on TV used
to do this: apply foundation to the edge of the lips and pencil in new
lips. Apply lipstick within this border.
Personally, I like lip sheers. Lip sheers give color but look natural.

I feel the same way. I don't feel comfortable in a dark red or bright
lipstick. I usually wear a pinkish beige or a rosy shade but not a
true red. My favorite is Bamboo pink by Clinique.

I feel red lipstick looks too strong and overpowering on me during the
daytime. I don't wear it much anymore, but if I do, it's usually at night.
The most I'll do with red during the day is a stain. However, I very much
appreciate a well–worn red when I see it on another woman.
