the seven deadly sins of fashion

"jjjjjuliep" <jjjjju...@aol.com>
From an article about "Queer Eye for the Straight Girl":
January 10, 2005 –– PRIDE, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and
sloth. We're all guilty of at least one of those seven deadly sins –
especially when it comes to fashion.
[...]
SIN #2: GREED
Having a complete lack of impulse control
"Women tend to buy on impulse," says Danny. "Maybe they're overwhelmed
with the vast amount of clothes and accessories and cosmetics that are
constantly being put in their face, but they shop in an over–the–top
way without putting too much thought into what they are buying, and
often end up spending too much money on faddy purchases."
Shrugs, ponchos, Ugg boots and brooches top Robbie's current list of
fashion felonies.
"Women invest far too much money in runway trends that date too
quickly," he says.
"The brooch trend is particularly irritating. When it started, it was
cute and creative. Now you can't walk into any store – from Wal–Mart to
Bergdorf's – without seeing a million blouses that come with brooches
on them."
SOLUTION:
"Abandon the idea that you have to do all your shopping in one day,"
suggests Danny.
"You're putting way too much pressure on yourself, and there's no way
you can focus properly – or be successful."
Instead, he recommends shopping in short spurts and giving yourself
time to consider whether that froufrou feathered skirt is something
you: a) want, b) need, c) will ever wear (and if so, where?).
And never remove a sales tag until you're completely convinced your
purchase was a savvy – not an impulse – buy.

I do like how fashion folks are still whining about how a trend took
off (brooches). Heaven forfend something on the runway actually
appeals to a wide audience. Nevertheless, I wore brooches when they
were not trendy, and I'll wear them when they are once again dowdy,
ahahaha.

I've also worn brooches for many years and will continue to wear them
as long as it pleases ME.
