Has there always been a size 1 when a line uses even sizes? It's

the even sizes to squeeze more smaller sizes into the sizing system?
I don't know, but I do like stores that have that type of sizing
system. I find that at MOST stores (BR, Ann Taylor, Talbots, department
stores, etc) I am usually right between a size 2 and a size 4. I will
stand there in the dressing room trying to decide "do I want this
slightly too snug (the 2) or slightly too large (the 4)?"
I've found that in stores like that Gap that offer 1's and 0's, the
2=4, the 0=2, and the 1=something between a 2 and 4, i.e., my perfect
ideal size 3! (LOL did you follow all that?)
I find that BR is the only place I'll order sight unseen. I find
they're highly consistent with their sizing. I order a 4p or size small
petite and have yet to be disappointed with fit (except that I did
notice their petite pants have been coming in longer lengths in the
past two years, so I end up having to get them hemmed but at least
they are the length advertised in the description).
Every place else, there is too much inconsistency from one style to
another and even from one garment to another. For example, I once
bought a perfect fitting pair of slacks in size 1short from the Gap. I
liked them so much, I bought a second pair online. They arrived, and I
couldn't squeeze myself into them! They were smaller in all dimensions.
I gave them to my DD12 they fit her just fine.
