rec for man's 'purse'?

gwehr...@bellsouth.net
Friend's husband, 63, would like to find what he calls a manly purse.
Says he's not into the biker type bags available. Any recs? I told
her I'd ask the experts.
thanks and a healthy 2005 to all

Filson makes some beautiful leather and/or heavy canvas
courier/laptop/field/etc bags that might work. www.filson.com

Perlina, or hobo bags (more purse like) and Patagonia makes a bag
that looks like a briefcase but converts to a backpack.

DH uses a small Sumdex bag (can be seen at
http://www.bagsforme.com/bags/SD–HDD–187) as a camera/PDA bag on trips.

D'oh! Sorry to reply to my own post, but I posted that link a bit too
quickly. DH's bag looks similar to the one in the image, but it's much
smaller –– about 5" wide and 8" tall. I think that it's discontinued,
sorry!

How large a bag does he need?
Coach has a waistpouch that is zippered. My brother's clutch–type bag came
from Coach too years ago; it's zippered and comes with a wrist handle.
If he is not into the biker/messenger bag, would he be into the Danish
school bags? They are made of canvas and are expandable. I used one through
my college years and I absolutely loved it. I have never bought from this
site, so not sure but they look like the real thing.

I would go for the small Prada men's purses. They're expensive but they
do last a very long time and even with frequent use, they look new.

Check out Tumi. They have several men's purses. I would suggest going to one
of their stores in a local mall or go to a local mall luggage store that
sells Tumi. Unfortunately they do not call them men's purses so it is more
difficult to find them on their webpage. They are available in clutch styles
or in styles with shoulder straps. All of them have a lifetime guarantee. I
have been using them for years and they are very versatile regarding
compartments and are very durable. They also have compartments for cell
phones, business cards, pens, etc.

might look into a Louis Vuitton purse...
the "graphics" can be "interpreted" as abstract "x" and "o"
that are used to diagram sports plays
thus making any Louis Vuitton purse ideal for a man.
