perfume mistake

Leigh Melton <le...@nbi.com>
I asked Santa to bring me Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune for
Christmas. I didn't realize at the time it contains patchouli. Argh!
Anything with patchouli in it smells exactly like stale sweat on me.
Blech. (Casting no aspersions on the scent, it's just a body
chemistry thing and it *stinks* on me.)
Now what?!? I have this big honking bottle that was given to me as a
gift and I just cannot wear it. :(

Guess you're only way out is to take a vacation to say, Paris and then
accidently lose it. Actually, any vacation spot would work, but Paris
just popped into mind...

Leigh you might want to take it back to the counter and throw yourself on
their mercy and tell them you had never smelled it before and you tried
it.. and it stinks.. and that you want to trade it in on something from
them..
and just don't lose the receipt if they go for it.

Maybe you could swap it on alt.fashion. If not, sell it on eBay. I'm
sure Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune is someone's favorite
fragrance. Make a pretty penny and buy a fragrance you love with it!

Did you notice before or after you opened it? If before, try to return
it, explaining that you received it as a gift, but realized that you
have a reaction to one of the ingredients. If after ... well, you can
still try! Otherwise, there are probably a lot of people here who are
in a similar position of having received a scent that they don't like,
who might be willing to execute a swap.
Good luck.

transfer it to ano. bottle, give to anyone who wants it, refill bottle
with colored water and gradually "use" it . Or refill with a fave of
yours and hope the donor doesn't know the diff.
(I wonder if it's patchouli in 'Angel' which turns me off....)

I give all reject perfumes to either my mom or her cousin. If they
don't want them I give them to my cleaning lady who is happy as a clam
to get them.

If you don't have a gift receipt (and therefore it would be impossible (not to
mention unethical) to just go to any store to return or exchange it) IMO your
best option is to confess what happened to Santa. I am sure Santa wants you to
be happy and s/he will be happy to find something you will wear and which will
make you happy.
