Can't–help–it Vent: losing a hairstylist

"Jill" <whattingaw...@nospam.com>
Ack! After literally YEARS of suffering with haircuts and color I hate I
found an AWESOME girl who made my hair look so good. It was a desparation
cut in one of those mall places, and she told me she wouldn't be there
forever but would be there a while and that when she planned to leave she'd
take my name and number so she can see me at her new place– she eventually
wanted her own place. She was only *20* years old! Sooooo good, though, and
did the perfect eyebrow waxing too. Well I got busy and wasn't abe to go
back until 3 months later and found that she had already left. I know her
full name but haven't a CLUE where she went, and have made some calls and I
can't find her. Drat! I know she is more than likely NOT working in another
mall chain, and probably got a booth somewhere– the people at her old place
claim they don't know where she is now and haven't heard from her. Even if
they did know they won't tell me. This is a rant and I've GOT to find
her!!!!

Have you done a Yahoo People or 411 search for her name? You might be able
to find her home number, if she doesn't have too common a name.

I have tried. I can't come up with anything, but something did pop up that
is one of those search type things that charge...for like $8, it will give
me her address and current info. I am almost 100% certain it is her because
it showed an approximate age as well as location. I am tempted to do it and
I am sure if she is working somewhere she'd be happy to do my hair, but I
feel VERY strange about paying for info like that if it is not readily
public. I've tried to call around different salons and so far out of about
10, no one knows her.
I don't want to stalk her, but she is SO talented. I think she is the best
person who has ever cut my hair. I hope I track her down. But I feel too odd
about paying those search services. I will ONLY use the public phone book.
There are SO many salons around here I can't possibly guess where she could
be, or call them all. I am going to keep calling where she used to work,
maybe they will get tired of me and finally just give me her number. They
HATE when you call there asking for someone who is no longer there, it makes
them angry, like they are angry you don't want to just come in and have
whoever is there do your hair....I think they know where she is, and just
won't say. That sucks! It also sucks though how those places are like
revolving doors– no one stays there long. I just hate I did not make it back
in there before she left so I could give her my number. I wish I had gotten
it right there on the spot. She thought she;d be there for at least a few
more months although she told me she wouldn't stay there right on. ......

What happens if you show up at the old salon with cash? Pay for the
information.

Well, of course not. The stylist gets only part of what she charges her
clients–– generally half IIRC. Most people with the skills and people
skills to charge more are going to look for more money for their work.

Ask the shampoo girl on the QT – she probably knows – tip her well if you get
the info.

Or ask other hairdressers at the salon who she seemed to be friendly
with when you were there. That's how I found out where my old
hairdresser went when she mysteriously vanished. No one at the front
knew, but I asked one of the hairdressers she seemed to always talk to
when I was there and he was able to pass along the information of where
she went. If not, there's still a chance that you'll receive a
postcard from her telling you where her new place is assuming she took
all of her client info with her (which you can bet she probably did).

Stalker, schmalker. If she was that good, pay for the info. on the
internet and call her.
Just my $.02,

Are there any schools that train hairdressers nearby? If you can figure out
where she went to school, maybe you could ask if they know where she is or
would forward a message. Might be easier than calling salons, especially
since she is so young and probably not long out of school.
