Here's what I think, Stevie....
Given the choice of having her lover killed, or staying with the Phantom,
Christine chooses the Phantom and plants the big kiss on him. He understands
how much she loves Raoul and releases them both, and he also leaves the opera
house. When Christine dies, Raoul delivers the music box to her grave. There
lies a rose from the Phantom, who is still alive, and still loves her.

Ok.. that's what I got from it... just that the woman who was bidding
against Raoul for the music box was the woman who was the wardrobe mistress
of the opera.
Is that suppposed to be her daughter who bid against Raoul??
It's the same actress. just wondering since that's at the first part of the
movie

I'll Sleep When I Die (Clive Owen)––––Started out slow but wound up being a
very good film that is dark and really makes you think.
Little Black Book–––––(Holly Hunter, Ron Livingston, Brittany Murphy,
Rashida Jones) Humorous and inventive, yet the ending sucked. Cute cameo
*non–musical* appearance from Gavin Rossdale of the UK band Bush.
Wicker Park––––(Rose Byrne, Matthew Lillard, Josh Hartnett, Diane Krueger)
Scary and reminiscent of "Single White Female", but it was engaging,
interestingly creepy, and had a great soundtrack.
XX/XY––––(Mark Ruffalo, Kathleen Robertson, etc.) Ending was much different
than I thought it would be, which surprised me a lot. Good, conflicted,
story about three very selfish and confused friends who come back in to
contact with each other after ten years of not speaking.

The Forgotten – this one is really reaching and full of holes. I gave it one
star on Netflix because they don't offer zero stars.
The Human Stain – interesting characterizations although the part of the female
love interest was a bit of a cliche. Still I enjoyed the movie.

It was a weekend of comedy. Really a time
to check your brain at the door. Mindless
entertainment during a snowstorm.
Dodgeball–typical Ben Stiller. Like the addition of
Vince Vaughn. Plus I enjoyed the cameos of Lance
Armstrong, Chuck Norris and William Shatner.
Bad Santa–I just love Billy Bob and he did a great
job on this film.

I watched "Mean Girls" last night at my little sister's request. I
have to say I laughed at a lot of the parts and it was a fun movie to
watch when I was feeling like keeping it low–key.
"The Spangliator" <spangliek...@netscape.net>
I rented A Home at the End of the World on DVD with Robin Wright Penn,
Dallas Howard, Sissy Spacek, and Colin Farrell last week. It was quirky, but
very good. I enjoyed it and felt that the roles were perfectly cast. Rented
Envy with Ben Stiller and Jack Black last week, too, and although I like
both of those guys, the film disappointed me. It sucked and I couldn't even
finish it.
Saw The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon, Mos Def, Kyra Sedgwick, and Benjamin
Bratt this weekend. It's definitely one of the best roles I've ever seen
Bacon in and Bratt was surprisingly believable and good in his role, too.
Mos Def's role was a tremendous cliche, but he's a good actor and did well
in the part.
Sedgwick was quite good, too, but she was the type of character that you
really have to struggle with because she lacked common sense and made
insanely impetuous and not very well thought out choices. There's a little
kid in the film who's a remarkably good actor in the role, too.

Jude Law and *Duh!* my other cause for a severe heart attack, Aaron Eckhart,
have taken a back seat lately to Clive Owen. He is utterly delicious. Clive
is my newest hot, sweet, love filled cinnamon bun.
Mr. Owen is just glowin' with gorgeousness, By Golly!!!! When I saw Closer I

presence of my sweet Clive.
I am at odds over the past few months in terms of which brunette I love
more: Clive Owen or Mark Ruffalo. Goodness, they are just both so heavenly
indeed. They're the best on my plate lately. Time will tell if things
change.
You have my permission to fawn over Jude and Aaron. I just can't wait to see

We'll see if Closer or Mike Nichols receive any nominations...

Mostly over the holidays:
Meet the Fockers: Funny enough but really, if Dustin Hoffman and Barbra
Streisand hadn't been in it it would have just been more of the same
after Meet the Parents. They were the best part of the movie.
The Aviator: Loved it but it was long so if you're like me and have a

nerve was NOT happy.
Napoleon Dynomite: I don't know about this. I laughed a lot but I was
laughing AT the movie. I like strange films but this one seemed to try
too hard to be strange.
Wicker Park: Okay but not especially good so I'm glad I waited for the
video
Garden State: Rewatched on video (saw it in the theater a while back).
Obviously, I loved it since I never watch the same movie twice unless I
really like it
Dodgeball: Stupid, crude but I liked it :) I wish Hank Azaria had more
time in it since I like him a lot for some reason.
Maria Full of Grace: Excellent film but not exactly uplifting!
I know we saw more but I don't remember what they were.

The ending has changed from the stage play. The older character you see
intercut with the main action (this is all the black and white footage) is Raul
as an old man. He has attended the auction to buy the music box for Christine.
At the end, he goes to visit her grave and leaves the music box for her. The
inscription on the gravestone indicates that she was happily married to him for
many years and had children. The red rose on the grave is also an indication
that the Phantom escaped and has been longing for her from afar (whereas in the
play he dies at the end) but it's a bit mysterious and open–ended.
I also saw the movie and loved it.

Here's what I think, Stevie....
Given the choice of having her lover killed, or staying with the
Phantom,
Christine chooses the Phantom and plants the big kiss on him. He
understands
how much she loves Raoul and releases them both, and he also leaves
the opera
house. When Christine dies, Raoul delivers the music box to her
grave. There
lies a rose from the Phantom, who is still alive, and still loves
her.
Just saw this movie last night w/my friend. Loved it. Was discussing
the differences between the stage version & the movie, and if we recall
correctly, the stage version was a little more ambivalent about whether
the Phantom perished or not. We both saw the long running SF cast and
she thought the Phantom had died, but I thought he escaped. The
movie's extended ending clearly indicates that the Phantom did escape.
Loved how in the movie the Phantom placed the engagement ring on the
rose.

Saw a bunch of movies (mostly on DVD) over Christmas vacation since
the in–laws don't have cable:
Meet the Fockers – very funny but I liked "Meet the Parents" better
(also found some of the stuff with the baby a bit hard to take since I
have a toddler but that's a discussion for misc.kids.breastfeeding!)
28 Days Later – overrated but okay.
Shaun of the Dead – freaking hilarious, especially since I'd seen "28
Days Later" recently. Highly recommend it.
Snow Falling on Cedars – overblown, self–important, way too long,
pretentious, blah.
Napoleon Dynamite – very weird but also very very funny.
The Bourne Supremacy – I loved Bourne Identity so I was excited to see
this. I was a bit disappointed and I thought that it wasn't as good
as Bourne Identity. It was still light–years better than a lot of
other stuff out there, though.
Dodgeball – I think this one is going onto my list of favourite movies
ever. Absolutely hysterical, especially Jason Bateman as the ESPN8
commentator.
13 Going On 30 – lots of fun and I thought that Jennifer Garner was
perfect for the role. FWIW, my 60–year–old father–in–law also loved
it.
The Station Agent – I liked it a lot and thought Peter Dinklage was

"The Woodsman" with Kevin Bacon. A strong drama about a paroled child molester,
it's not for everyone, but it is an emotional, well–told story. It made more of

On DVD, as a Netflix newbie, rented an old fave, "Strangers on a Train."

In the last month or so:
*Harold and Kumar go to White Castle – absolutely hilarious!!!!! It's
stupid at the same time, but it's soooo funny. I saw it twice in the last
two days. :P It belongs in the cult comedy category along with Office Space
and Better Off Dead.
*Meet the Fockers – very funny, but still liked Meet the Parents better. I
saw it the day before my family went to visit my fiance's family. :)
Luckily mine and his families aren't opposites, like the characters in the
movie.
*Anchorman – hilarious! I love Will Farrell!
*Garden State – quite good! Cute and quirky.
*Collateral – not as good as I hoped. Then again, I'm not that into "crime
dramas."
*Ocean's Twelve – I liked the first one way better, but this wasn't bad.

The Aviator – good movie, didn't seem too long at all even though it
runs for 3 hours. I was amazed at Howard Hughes accomplishments – I had
no idea he was such a pioneer in aviation. What happened to him was
tragic, there was no recognition of OCD or any treatment in those days.
The Woodsman – amazing acting performances, worth seeing for that BUT
not so sure I found the story line believable.

I know – I was surprised at how little gore there was in it. Except
for that one scene (I'm sure you know which one I mean), there was

Rented "Ray" tonight and Disc #1 was missing from the box. Was royally
pissed. They're giving me two free rentals because of it (I called and
didn't even bother to drive back and WAIT in LINE to deal with this crap.)
Recently I have watched King Arthur, which absolutely sucked even though
Clive Owen looked really hot and Stellan Skaarsgaard looked damned cool with
the longer hair, Steel Jawed Angels, which Angelica Huston just won a Golden
Globe for and it was EXCELLENT, and Shall We Dance, which was funny, cute,
and highly amusing.
Also saw Million Dollar Baby over the weekend at the theater. It was a good
film and Morgan Freeman, most of all, is Oscar Worthy for this one. I'm
somewhat ashamed and unimpressed by the ending of this film, however. It
didn't live up to the way they'd written Clint's character throughout the
rest of the film, leaving the entire film to be lacking in congruency. It
was an about–face that really threw me for a loop and I'm still thinking

I plan to see Hotel Rwanda this weekend. I'm really looking forward to

A few movies I've seen lately:
House of Flying Daggers –– Such a beautiful film. Dh thought it was

I, Robot –– I, hated it.
Meet the Fokkers –– It was funny in some spots, but overall a boring

has a very predictable style. It's too easy to see where he is going

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle –– Hilarious movie. I really loved
it.

Ray––––decent film, but flawed in certain ways, especially in that it moved
at too swift of a pace, even in the Director's cut. To tell this tale
properly it should've been a mini series instead of a two and a half hour
film. It doesn't deserve the best picture nod, but Regina King and Jamie
Foxx's performances are worthy of award recognition. David Krumholtz (from
the tv series Numb3rs) and Richard Schiff (Tobie on West Wing) were great in
their character roles in this flick, however.
The Notebook––––excellent love story and Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are
both easy on the eyes. Garner and Rowlands were perfectly cast as was Joan
Allen, who was superbly cast for this role and even looked like the daughter
to a tee. Loved the cars and the costumes in this film, too.
