Luggage HELP!!!! Q!!!

valmont32...@aol.com (Valmont32677)
I am going to be going to NC a lot this year to spend time with my boyfriend
Nick and I was wondering....I cannot afford to get new luggage, but I have a
plain black canvas suitcase with a smaller plain black matching one. These
hold exactly enough to make the weight requirements for USAirways (the one I
always fly), so I'm not interested in getting new luggage, but I am interested
in trying to make my bags more "unique" so that i can spot them easier in the
baggage claim and so that no one else takes them (seems like EVERYONE has a
black suitcase!). Any ideas on "personalizing" the bags so they are easier to
spot yet fashionable? I have tried putting ribbons on the handles but that
still makes it hard to find them in the massive sea of baggage. I was thinking
about getting silver and/or pink paint markers and drawing on the suitcases
using Hello Kitty stencils. Anyone else have any ideas? I also thought about
getting letters and sticking them on the sides of the bag with my last
name....i really need some ideas here .... on the cheap. Any ideas would be
appreciated!!!!! TIA

What about hot glueing thick grosgrain ribbon (making stripes) on the
outside? No guarentee that they'll stay on, but maybe it's worth a try.
Good luck, let us know what you do!

They should stay on awhile anyway. Years ago, I started to use duct tape to
put my initial on the outside of my ubiquitous black luggage; it helps a
lot. My mom uses a combination of ribbons, bows and yarn tied to the
handles. The fabric paint is a cute idea but remember that you are
"married" to it.
Enjoy the traveling (and the boyrfriend)!

My father–in–law painted a big yellow circle on the side of his luggage...it
works for him. I think a hello kitty stencil or any decoration painted on
would do the trick.
I have red luggage and a purple leather luggage tag. That combination makes it
easy to spot, even though red luggage has become fairly common.
A little length of plaid ribbon knotted on the handle is also a less obtrusive
way to distinguish your bag –

I tied a thick "finger–knitted" hunk of red yarn on the handle of my
black suitcase....not exactly a fashion statement, but it works!
In a recent issue of "Real Simple" magazine, they showed suitcases
dolled up with stripes of colored duct tape. It looked great; I
wonder how well it sticks?

They sell luggage straps/belts that you put around your suitcase, they are
made to keep your luggage secure. I have a couple (pink & lime) & I know my
parents who travel a lot have a rainbow colored one. It definitely makes it
easier to notice in the sea of typical black rolling luggage. I know you can
get them at any luggage store but you might also try Target.

That's a great idea. I use at least two luggage tags in day glo colors on
each piece. Most people use only one, that way I can tell mine apart. I
might add the luggage straps to make it even easier.

I highly recommend these luggage tags: http://tinyurl.com/5muc4
We use them for travel within the U.S., but they're especially good for
international travel. A few years ago, due to a breakdown and change of
airport shuttles at de Gaulle Airport, one of our suitcases was left on
the street outside the terminal. We didn't know that had happened until we
arrived at our hotel and found a message telling us to come pick up our
bag. The airline told us that, because of the yellow tag with our
itinerary inside, the suitcase had not been destroyed!
