AOL has been selectively eating posts to the NG.

AOLer's have been reporting the eating AF posts for as long as I've
been reading AF. Which is about 5 years.
As an amateur geek I really do have to suggest changing your ISP.
Sure, some of the geek disdain for AOL is simple snobbery, but some of
it is based on valid issues.

not to worry– it will spit out your posts in about 7–10 days! (maybe AOL mails
posts to the board! Now that would make sense, right?) I got to read your
"What I am wearing for New Year's" on about Jan 7...that is when it occurred
to me that these posts were a little late(!) because frankly I do not always
look at dates.

Yeah, same here. I've gotten to the point where I just shrug and press on.

Actually, I don't think it's possible for any news server to pick up all
the posts. I have two and when I compare them they're always with
different numbers. One I pay for and one is free.

Or, they don't have to change the ISP, just subscribe to one of the many
servers out there. The problem about AOL I believe is that they had
sort of a bad start by underestimating the public response to the
service. They were overwhelmed with subscriptions which caused some
difficulties to effectively meet. That has still left a bit of a
hangover today...

That's true, you're never going to get 100%, though some servers come
closer to that than others.

Good suggestion, especially if they enjoy some of the AOL specific
content they don't want to give up.
Any recommendations for Usenet servers for those AFers who might be
looking for one? (Not me, Mediacom's servers do a good job.)

The kicker is they keep losing customers and they're still hosing up.
So, if it was a capacity problem....

Have you tried unsubscribing to af? If not, do that then reboot and
subscribe to af again...

AOL has a pop up that newsgroups are being discontinued. I wrote them feedback
that I hated that and also complained about their new message boards which do
not advance and go back reliably....Probably I need to switch to another
service, but I expect they will try to keep billing me for the rest of my
natural life, as I tried canceling a "free" service for a senioe citizen who
did not want it, and it was very difficult.

All I can say is that when I used to use AOL, if I called them about
newsgroup/usenet problems, the tech staff never knew what I was talking
about. They simply thought I didn't know what I was talking about.
I assumed newsgroups were not a priority for them. Did they ever update
their ng interface?

Claire,
Don't feel like the lone ranger. When I called my ISP regarding them having
a limit on downloading newsgroup msgs, they quickly informed me that their
limit was the problem and they probably weren't going to change anytime
soon. This made it overly obvious where their priorities lay.
