Donna,
You are going to get such varied answers to this. For me it is a couple of
Vitamin C products. KMF Ester C Serum is wonderful. I use it at night
before bed. I also use Philosophy's Hope and a Prayer which is a "high
potency topical vitamin C with copper and zinc for all skin types." I like
this one because it is in powder form and can be mixed with any moisturizer
that I may use that day. The box says that it may also be mixed in
sunblock, eye cream and hand cream. I haven't done any of those yet but I
do use the KMF serum on my hands at night. I have noticed a visible
brightening on my face–a toning down somewhat of the redness. My mother
said a couple of days ago that I have no wrinkles. Hmm. It's working!
I also love my Dr. Brandt's Microdermabrasion in a Jar. Wonderful slight
lemony scent with extremely finely milled particles. It really polishes me
nicely. But this may not be a good suggestion because it is expensive. I
think $75 for a jar. I've come to the conclusion, though, that since it
only takes about a dime sized amount for my face and neck, a jar could last
me a whole year. I will repurchase this.
Jamie
P.S. I think lots of people would agree that the Queen Helene Mint Julep
Mask is a very inexpensive but extremely effective item for cleaning the
pores. This would be a good one!

Cool thread...
Here's what I'd put in a gift basket, don't know what your price range
is but these would come in under about $100:
1. Cetaphil Cleanser. Basic, classic, good for all skin types.
2. RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream. Inexpensive and
fabulous.
3. Lancome Juicy Tube in Miracle. Every girl needs a little sparkle and
gloss.
4. Frederick Fekkai Glossing Cream. Perfect leave–in conditioner.
5. Nars Blush. The shade would depend on the person.
These are my current essentials. Clean skin, sleek hair, gloss and
blush are a good start.
Cheers,
Melanie

Here are my five essentials: facial cleanser, moisturizer and serum; eye
treatment; lip balm; facial brightener.
These are the products I use in those categories:
* A mild but thorough and non–drying facial cleanser. I keep trying
others but seem always to return to Olay's Beta Hydroxy cleanser.
* CDLM face cream in the winter and the CDLM lighter moisturizing
lotion in the summer
* La Mer face serum
* Perricone Alpha Lipoic Acid Eye Area Therapy
* Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm

My gosh, I forgot to add my sunscreen!! Right now, I'm using La Prairie's
Cellular Anti–Wrinkle Sun Block SPF 50, but I also like CDLM's fluid SPF
18 in the spring, June Jacobs micronized sunscreen SPF 30 in the summer
when I'm not so dry and it's a little drying on me, and Bullfrog
sunscreen with an SPF of at least 36 for my body when out and about. Olay
also makes an OK facial moisturizer with a sunscreen in it that isn't too
drying, although I usually do have to add moisturizer on top when I use
it.
I'd take away the Prescriptives if I had to keep it to five products.

1) Cleansing wipes––lots of choices here; Olay is a good drugstore
option.
2) Tinted moisturizer with sunscreen––takes care of two steps at once
and can be mixed with foundation. I use MAC Select Tint; also like the
Neutrogena.
3) a good body moisturizer––for gift baskets, small tubs of The Body
Shop's body butters in various scents would work, with some unscented
option available for your friends who don't like scents.
4) one of the double–duty lip/cheek products like Stila Convertible
Color or Sonia Kashuk's Benetint knock–off.
5) mascara or lip balm––I'd have a hard time choosing mascara for other
people unless I knew what they liked (lengthening v. thickening,
waterproof or not, etc.) so I'd punt and pick out an unscented,
unflavored lip balm..........Laurie B.

If your recipient has aging, dry, fair, freckly skin like someone I know
who shall remain nameless, she'll probably enjoy:
1. Simple Solutions Ultra Copper Firming Serum to use under moisturizer
or even in place of it.
2. A good moisturizer with SPF for face/throat. I love Estee Lauder's
Resilience Lift Face and Throat Lotion SPF 15.
3. A moisturizing bath gel w/a pair of scrubby gloves. I like
Philosophy's Hot Cocoa.
4. A rich body cream. I'm enjoying Philosophy's Melting Marshmallow body
souffle.
5. A product to transform her current stock of foundations, add a glow,
and transition between different shades and types of coverage. I like
Armani's Fluid Sheer #2. Also there is the Revlon Skinlights line. I mix
it with other foundations and tinted moisturizers.
HTH,

This is a fun one! Lately I've been quite bare–minimum, so here's my
list...
– lip balm (either Kiehls or Burt's Bees)
– facial moisturizer (now, L'Oreal Wrinkle De–Crease)
– powder compact to dull the oil slicks (Lancome Dual Finish)
– Lancome Definicils mascara
– Multi–purpose color (Vincent Longo Faerie Creme in Stellar)
Also useful, and right up there, are makeup–remover towelettes, and if I
were putting together a gift basket, I'd throw in a nicely scented
salt/sugar scrub and perhaps some blotting papers. That's the kind of
thing I never buy for myself but have used, and appreciated, when I've
received them.

I loved the Philosophy Soul Owner foot cream when I first bought it, but it
makes my *hands* turn red and itchy and break out when I rub it on to my
feet. Don't know which ingredient in it does this to me, but maybe it's the
lavender oil in it? Too bad, really, because it's a damn good foot cream
otherwise.
