Any Reviews for Pop Eye Cakes?

"Claire in SF" <clairi...@aol.com>
The Eye Cake tins from Pop Beauty look like a lot of fun and good for
travel. Any AF reviews on them? Consistency, etc?

Funny you should mention that, because the green eyes one arrived in my Sephora
order today – I'll let you know on 12/25! It's going into my stocking!

I had the one for brown eyes. This was before I was particularly
makeup–saavy. I eventually traded it away on MUA when I got more adept
in choosing colors, but it was indeed very good for travel and very
"eyeshadow for dummies" for people who have a hard time choosing colors
that look good on them. All of the shades can be combined in any way
and look great. There is a gorgeous dark brown with a hint of dark pink
sparkle to it that almost caused me to keep it just for that color.

So if it says "green eyes" does that mean the cake is intended for people
with green eyes? Or is that just the name of the cake?
I have eyes that are green in the middle and brown on the edges, so I am not
sure what cake would be best for me, but I'm thinking probably the violet.

My eyes are the same color as yours. I'm thinking of having Santa put
the green eyes Eye Cake in my stocking. I thought about the violet eye
cake, too, as purple tones definitely bring out the green in my eyes.
But I find as I get older, I look better in neutral–to–warm shades as
opposed to very cool shades, probably because my skin tone has changed.
Either that or my bottled hair color is to blame. ;)

Yeah, they are for the colors of your eyes. There are ones for brown,
green, and blue eyes. The brown eyes one was mostly purple/lavendar shades.

OK, I looked at the kits and read this and now I am confused. I thought you
aren't "supposed" to wear the same color eyeliner or eyeshadow as your eye
color as it competes with your eye color.

From Jurgita.com...Modeling Magazine:
How To Match Eye Shadow With Your Eye Color

Need an eyeshadow shade that looks cool with your eye color? Here's help.
For Blue Eyes:
1. Tried and True: taupe, gray, violet, purple, deep blue (a darker shade than
your eye color makes your eyes really blue), black (mix it with bright blue for
a smoky effect)
2. Funky Favorites: silver, turquoise, fuschia (brightens any shade of blue)
Green or Hazel Eyes:
1. Tried and True: brown, apricot, purple, plum, deep khaki or forest green
(because they are in the same greenish family, they brighten green eyes)
2. Funky Favorites: gold, lime–green, really light green, bright purple (super
modern)
Brown Eyes:
1. Tried and True: copper, bronze, champagne (soft pink with a touch of
apricot), brown (for a doe–eyed look), beige, and khaki–green (lighter shades
add highlight)
2. Funky Favorites: tangerine, royal blue, hot pink, lime–green (the contrast
adds punch to brown)

I have heard this too, and there is definately truth to it from my own
experience. Some of the kits do contain colors that seem they would
compliment the eye color they are named after (e.g. "brown eyes"). But the
"Bright blue" one I would think would wash out the eye color for someone who
had blue eyes. I dunno ...

I actually HAVE this bright blue one. I got it as a gift.... and it's
definitely a YMMV sort of thing. the colors are phenomenally pretty. I would
mix it up with others but it's tonally related and you have the ability to
create a soft fairly natural look with sheer buildable color that has
definition. I would think on someone with a more turquoise eye or outfit
this would be great. Nice on hazel eyes too

I was thinking of the green as well, for mostly the same reasons (although I
can really never be sure whether I do better with warm or cool because so
many colors in each family just don't seem to suit me). The green would be a
great way to expand my greens, which are too limited at present.

Sounds like those of us with grey eyes got a cheap deal. ;)

I got the one for green eyes with my Sephora order, used it once so far, and
was thrilled. I am hardly ever thrilled with e/s mainly because I have a lot
of difficulty finding colors that work on me. I cannot tell whether I just
continually make bad color choices (even though I try both warms and cools
and various color familes) or whether my coloring is such that it limits the
colors I can use.
