OT: Holiday music

lipglossjun...@gmail.com (Lipgloss Junkie)
I like downtempo, house and chilled jazz kind of music so here's what
I play when people come over...these CDs are popular when I take them
to family's homes (then I get a reprieve from disasters like Jessica
Simpson and those overplayed Christmas CDs with the Keith Haring
covers):
The Reindeer Room – A Christmas Chillout (this one came with a firelog
DVD too!)

Christmas Remixed: Holiday Classics Re–Grooved

The Charlie Brown Christmas is a classic

And not officially a Christmas CD but Coltrane's My Favorite Things
works

Get these, put em on shuffle and you'll be set!

To this, I add my two Kings of Christmas music: Andre Kostelanetz and Ray
Conniff. Sure, it's old school and cheeeeezy (esp the RC) but it's what I
grew up with, and still love.
The best Andre Kostelanetz Xmas album (Wonderland of Christmas in Columbia
Records' "360–degree stereo") is one I searched for on CD for years, and
never found....but thanks to CoolEdit, I now possess a perfect clean
digital copy with all the skips and crispies from my original LP taken out.
This album contains, IMHO, the definitive "Sleigh Ride" version.
As for Ray Conniff, all I can say is that I always want to sing the songs
the way his lovely singers did. That means lots of "doo–wah"s during White
Christmas, and "ooh"s during most of the other songs. It's great to have
all the tracks on my mp3 player on shuffle during this time of year.
Michele, also loving the various TV holiday cartoon songs (Holly Jolly
Xmas!)

we have a stack of Christmas CDs but the one we play more than any
other (last year anyway) is The Holly & the Ivy – Clare College Choir
.... with many classic pieces one does not hear often such as 'King
Jesus has a garden', 'the crown of roses' and 'Jesus Christ the apple
tree' ...

I went to a college choir concert yesterday and the music, though
not common, was fabulous! If anyone has a chance to support
their local college or any other org, do it! You may be surprised.

DH brought home some CDs we both liked:
* "Christmas with the Tallis Scholars" and "The Essential Tallis Scholars"
* Barenaked Ladies "Barenaked for the Holidays"
My favorite Hanukkah CD is Jon Simon's "Hanukkah And All That Jazz!".

I got a little tired of Christmas music earlier than usual this year
probably because the local station started playing it earlier this
year. I didn't listen to much of it, other than Mannheim Steamroller
and Elivs, in the record collection. As a sort of protest I changed
my cell phone ringtone to the Dreidel song. I'd have gone mad if I had
kept a Christmas ringtone.:–)
Some Everquest Online Adventures Frontiers players thought I was
already mad when I came up with this when Enchanters conjure up their
clay golem:
Golem Golem Golem, you made it out of clay. Golem Golem Golem, with
Golem we shall slay.
