Not sure, but I don't think so. When you click on a magazine, then
click to their 'Customer Service' link, it takes you to the actual
magazine's CS, not some middleman page...
I've subscribed through Publishers Clearing House before and when it's
time to resubscribe, the notice comes from the magazine not PC.
A legitimate magazine clearinghouse should have an agreement with the
publisher, which spells out between them who handles renewals. That
is sometimes the clearinghouse, not the publisher, so the publisher's
policies would not give you the information you need (although I think
that the link we're talking about was actually Conde Nast, the
publisher).
Read the fine print. They have no right to renew, or to charge your
credit card, without your permission. Unless you've authorized it
and that includes the *fine print* they can't renew without your
permission. If you're not sure, ask. And if you can't get a straight
answer, is this someone you want having your credit card number in the
first place?
They probably WILL solicit you to renew for your friend, though.
I ordered a couple of subscriptions for One through Amazon, BTW.
They're pretty trustworthy in general.
