Thanksgiving weekend shopping report

"shinypenny" <shinypenny0...@yahoo.com>
For Thanksgiving my girlfriend came to visit. I mentioned her before,
when I first started posting: she was my original style mentor. We are
both about the same height (although she's skinnier than me) and both
like to shop exclusively in petites, so it's always a lot of fun to go
shopping together.
On black friday we headed out to Newbury street, bringing along my very
fashionable and tall girlfriend as well. My DF played taxi service so
we didn't have to worry about shopping. It was really cold and brisk,
which meant we had to duck into stores frequently and not do much
window shopping. :–)
We didn't have much luck because the prices were too high for us,
although we had a lot of fun trying on outrageously priced clothing.
Fantasy find of the day for me was a $3000 brown leather jacket with
tons of fringe (on the chest and down each arm) at Ralph Lauren. No, I
didn't buy it, but if I was a rich rock star, I would have because it
would have been perfect to wear on stage. But like that would ever
happen. :–)
VFGF lucked out at Anthropologie, snagging a pretty green v–neck
cashmere sweater, with tie, and a green jacket that is hard to describe
but we all agreed looked great on her, and it was on sale. I love the
clothes there, but none of it works on me. I think you need to be about
5–8 or 5–9, thin, and French to pull it off. :–)
We hit Lush at the end of the day and I stocked up on stocking stuffers
for my girls.
On Saturday my gf and I hit the mall. First stop J Crew. My gf
purchased several sweaters. I fell in love with, and bought, the ivy
green cableknit turtleneck. Now I know I said I don't look good in
turtlenecks as a rule, but there was something about this one that
seemed to work.... plus, it is warm! Also picked up a sweater for my DF
for xmas, a nice basic navy wool crewneck.
Then we went to Ann Taylor Loft. My gf only bought a couple of belts
there. I snagged a pair of khakis that fit nice and will be handy next
month when we're in florida. Otherwise, not much – all picked over.
Finally we tried out a new store called Janeville. Anyone familiar with
this store? It is owned by the same company as Gymboree, and reminds me
of AT Loft – seems about the same quality and hitting the same type of
market.
I was dubious since they only carry a small amount of petites, pants in
size 2p and 4p and that's it. But, the sales clerk insisted that I try
on the XS's and sure enough, a lot of the clothes fit me pretty well –
just a tad long in the sleeves but not bad. I picked up a beautiful
pink cashmere cardigan with a cute sleeveless tee with lace trim to go
under it.
There was also this awesome coat that I am thinking about going back
for. I have no idea what you call the material (it's on the tip of my
tongue). I don't think it's boucle, but maybe it is... hmmm.. kinda
furry–like except the "fur" is in loops?? Help me out here.... It would
look great dressed up or down – perfect for wearing to holiday events
over a dress, or dressed down with jeans.
