For everyone that has been helpful as the whole DH Masonic installation
saga unfolded, the final pieces are falling into place, and not a
moment too soon. Event is Dec 27 and is all Scottish themed. We
tested out the dinner menu last night and it was very good and not a
dreadful amount of work.
Here's the dinner menu:
Punch bowl: Wassail (nonalcoholic)
Nut cups: no peanut mixed nuts, Edinburgh Rock candy
Starters: smoked salmon, cheese, oatcakes, scotch eggs
Salad: mixed greens with honey mustard vinaigrette
Entree: lamb stew in a bread bowl, clapshot (potatoes or cauliflower
mashed with parsnips), carrots with caraway seed
Sweet: shortbread, of course
After installation: cherry walnut cake, sparkling juices
After cleanup for the cooks: single malt Scotch, neat
Not a bad dinner for $10 per person. Centerpieces will be top hats and
white gloves on a square of DH's tartan, with some pine boughs. A good
friend will be cooking with me, assisted by one of my youth group girls
who will be my special helper all year.
Should have 5060 people for dinner, including several past Grand
Masters, most of the current Grand Lodge line officers, state level
presiding officers from three other orders, and many friends, both
Masonic and otherwise.
On topic: I'll probably be wearing floor length black velvet gown,
with a silk tartan sash on the shoulder with an amber brooch. for
scent, it will be SL Arabie so I don't clash with dinner! DH will be in
full highland dress (about $1800 worth, to be precise, with all of the
custom work). For his installation gift from me, he will be receiving
a brushed silk top hat, the emblem of his office. For his birthday
(12/7) and chanukah, he is getting custom knitted tartan socks.
It sounds like you have it all under control and it appears that you are
destined to have a wonderful evening. Enjoy!
