Christmas Question?

Lions...@webtv.net
What is your all–time christmas shopping disaster.
Mine? I bought my wife a roll top desk, and to my surprise, she bought
me one.

I can honestly say I've never had a Christmas shopping disaster. Just
lucky I guess.

I never had an "all–time Christmas shopping diisaster" but I would
have had one I followed Mom's advice.
A number of years ago, I lived in a two–level four–plex where UPS left
my frequent packages with the retired couple downstairs. Mom
commented, "With all the packages they get for you, maybe you should
get them something... like a fruit basket." I decided to get them a
CD instead because I knew they liked music and had a CD player (which
they were invariably listening to when I came to pick up my packages).
When I commented about "fruit basket" they told me: "We have a son
that works in the produce business, we already have all the fruit we
want!"

Nor have I but this Christmas will be a little different, not because of
shopping though. I have an aunt who was born on Christmas Day & a phone
call to wish her Happy Birthday was the norm (she lived in Manitoba).
Unfortunately she recently passed away so that tradition is gone.

Honestly? Dealing with Yankee Candle online. I had ordered a HUGE set to be
sent to my sister (this was 5 or so years ago) and I went through hell just to
resolve every single issue with it. I ordered it in October with a scheduled
December 21st delivery. It finally arrived in mid January. I will never ever
ever order from them online again.

Maybe it was just growing pains or an isolated incident. Most online
orders we've made have turned out very well. Haven't ordered from
Yankee Candle but don't remember others mentioned problems either.
Thanks for the heads up though as it's something to watch out for...

How about the year that Amazon mailed the stuff I ordered for my mom
to the wrong person and mailed her some stuff she found incredibly
offensive?

Xmas has been cancelled here due to lack of interest... So no chance
of any disasters.

sounds like an o. henry story :). mine isn't quite a shopping story, but it's a
gift story. i was in london before christmas years ago, and got some knitting
wool with the idea of knitting my dad a sweater. it was really nice; it was
mostly grey, with a red diamond pattern knitted in across the chest and near
the hem and each cuff. i knitted like a madwoman for 2 weeks, finishing it on
the plane. my dad loved it and went to put it on... and the damn thing didn't
fit over his head!! the neckband was just too small. it turned out not to be a
total disaster, as we got quite a few years of laughing out of it, he
eventually got a new sweater (which i knitted with a larger neckband) and i've
still got the disaster sweater, which is big and cozy on me.
